    Job Description

    Purpose

    This role supports a small unit kitchen with daily kitchen operations in a small culinary unit— a compact culinary operation within AbbVie designed to serve up to 380 guests for lunch. The small unit kitchen is operated by a cross-functional team where members often take on multiple roles, collaborate closely, and maintain high standards while providing a focused menu to a select group of guests. This environment values adaptability, teamwork, and proactive problem-solving. Contribute to operational success by following all sanitation and preparation standards to ensure food product is of the highest quality in taste and appearance, while satisfying guest expectations. Key responsibilities include prepping ingredients, supporting cooking of cafeteria menu items and catering orders, maintaining sanitation and food safety standards, receiving and storing deliveries, minimizing waste, and maintaining organized workstations. As a member of the Culinary Service Team, you are expected to take initiative to assist peers and ensure excellent guest service at all times.

    Responsibilities

    • Work closely with the Chef or designated kitchen lead including but not limited to; Catering lead or member of management team.
    • Assists with the preparation of food service for Cafe and catering, could include preparing breakfast or lunch short order grill items, and/or preparing items for full service deli.
    • Support lunch service by serving guests, batch cooking as needed, and maintaining a high standard of guest care and kitchen efficiency. Maintains consistent, efficient service during peak hours.
    • Cooks and prepares food following approved recipes and production standards; comfortable with basic kitchen tools (knives, slicing machines), kitchen terms, and standard equipment.
    • Ensures all Health Department safety and sanitation guidelines are followed; maintains sanitation of equipment, utensils, and work area; ensures display equipment is clean and complies with all sanitation, safety, production, and merchandising requirements.
    • Demonstrates complete understanding of daily menu items and can accurately explain them to associates and customers; interacts with customers to resolve complaints in a friendly, service-oriented manner, and relays relevant information to supervisor.
    • Ensures all product is cooked and served according to recipe specifications and food safety/sanitation practices.
    • Assist with prepping ingredients and supplies needed for the next day’s service to ensure smooth kitchen operations, and remain adaptable to accommodate any special guest requests.
    • Thoroughly completes all station set-up and breakdown responsibilities.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Chef, Catering lead, or supporting management.
    • Working hours are 5:30AM - 2:00PM CST, with occasional weekend shift.

    Qualifications

    • HS Diploma or GED required.

    • 1-3 years of culinary experience. Culinary Arts certificate preferred.

    • Corporate Dining or Contract foodservice operations experience - highly desirable. Catering experience a plus. High volume batch cooking experience.

    • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and oral/written communication skills. Must be able to follow verbal instructions, written recipes and instructions for menu items.

    • Knowledge of food cost and how it pertains to a kitchen, product and quality identification. Self-motivated, excellent communication skills with proven track record in providing excellent guest service.

    • Possess language skills, with an ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and operating/procedure manuals. Additionally, is able to comprehend basic kitchen math, with an ability to add, subtract, and/or divide in all units of measure.

    • Knowledge of the Foodservice menu system, knowledge of the GFS ordering system and the ability to order using the GFS computer ordering system.

    • Proactive team player, flexible with strong organizational skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, ability to adapt to change in a positive manner.

    • Overtime required, flexible work schedule at times. Willing to work in any other job duties that may be assigned.

    • Valid Driver's license and good driving record.
