At Bristol Myers Squibb, we are inspired by a single vision – transforming patients’ lives through science. In oncology, hematology, immunology and cardiovascular disease – and one of the most diverse and promising pipelines in the industry – each of our passionate colleagues contribute to innovations that drive meaningful change. We bring a human touch to every treatment we pioneer. Join us and make a difference.

The Tumor Microenvironment Thematic Research center (TME TRC) in Redwood City California is focused on developing therapeutic targets at the intersection of tumor, stromal, and immune biology within the tumor microenvironment.  Comprising of scientists across multiple disciplines we are responsible for the biology, translational science, and therapeutic modality development (biologic and small molecule) to support drug development from target identification trough first in human studies.

The TME TRC is highly committed to supporting local STEM initiatives that expose individuals from all backgrounds to careers in scientific disciplines through a Summer Internship Program for the summer of 2023. This is a great opportunity to gain exposure to diverse areas of the drug discovery process and have a hand in bringing novel therapeutics to cancer patients. We are seeking highly motivated individuals with at least 2 years of study towards a bachelor’s degree from accredited Bay Area Colleges and Universities to participate in a 10 week, full-time paid summer research program. The interns will have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to programs within the drug discovery pipeline at BMS.

The interns will work directly with a discovery program lead and a technical advisor to complete a defined project over the course of the 10 week program. Students will benefit from the state-of-the art laboratories at our Redwood City research site, and gain critical knowledge of the core techniques used for biological assays necessary for target identification/validation, molecule screening, and functional analysis of drug candidates in the early and late stage discovery pipeline.  The intern will have the opportunity to participate in departmental and project team meetings to gain valuable insights into drug discovery and development process, and interact with individuals with a range of scientific and pharmaceutical leadership backgrounds. The internship will conclude with a formal symposium where the student will have the opportunity present their findings to the larger research site in Redwood City. We highly encourage students from all backgrounds to apply and join our diverse team next summer.
