    This program is jointly managed by Pfizer and Atrium Works. The PGS network consist of the following core manufacturing operations: Drug Product Manufacturing and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient Manufacturing. These core manufacturing operations are supported by various departments and teams including operations, engineering, quality, supply chain and logistics. Our summer interns will work in conjunction with these areas on challenging assignments and projects that will stimulate creative problem-solving and collaborative leadership, while contributing to the overall goal of bringing quality life-saving medicines to patients around the world.

    Interns will be employed by Atrium Works.

    ++Global Supply Chain:++ At Global Supply Chain an intern can expect to join a team that fits well with their field of study and interests within supply chain and business analytics.  Core responsibilities should include amongst others. Creating, running, and analyzing Tableau reports, Assist in data analytics and process improvement initiatives.  Monitoring demand and supply trends and fluctuations and provide alerts to the team. General production planning and inventory control ad hoc request. Assist with Supply Chain Innovation projects and perform other related duties as assigned or required.

    ++Global Technology & Engineering:++ The Global Technology and Engineering (GT&E) organization pioneers manufacturing technology to supply medicine to patients all over the world. GT&E works around the globe helping manufacturing sites to design, implement and improve technologies that span the full lifecycle of products across all modalities. Our summer interns will work in one of these areas on challenging assignments and projects that will stimulate creative problem-solving and collaborative leadership while contributing to the overall goal of bringing quality life-saving medicines to patients around the world.

    ++Launch Excellence:++ The Launch Excellence Team partners with Pharmaceutical Sciences to bring new products through late-stage clinical development, submit market applications, and seek approval from global health authorities. Our summer interns will work on challenging assignments and projects that will stimulate creative problem-solving and collaborative leadership, while contributing to the overall goal of bringing quality life-saving medicines to patients around the world.

    • Locations: Peapack, NJ • Kalamazoo, MI • St. Louis, MO • Andover, MA • Sanford, NC • Rocky Mount, NC • New York, NY • Remote

    ++Sterile Injectables and Biotech Operations (SBO++++):++ Positions will be directly in Drug Product (DP) production areas, Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) production areas or supporting functions such as our product technology labs, training, compliance, EHS or operational excellence. DP production areas might include vial filling, freeze dry, medical device manufacturing, packaging, inspection. API areas might include pilot plant or large-scale synthesis. Project assignments will be focused on supporting a variety of areas and projects. These projects could include process improvement, safety, technical writing and review, project management, process engineering, manufacturing science and technology, automation, validation, and other inter-departmental collaboration on projects.  Summer Development participants will also work as a team on a group project for the site and participate in lunch and learn activities to increase business acumen in other site departments.

    ++Small Molecule Operations (SMO):++ With approximately 8,000 colleagues across 19 manufacturing sites, Small Molecule Operations – or “SMO” – leverages synthetic organic chemistry to produce Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients and to manufacture and package Solid Orals, serving patients all over the world, including local markets. Therapeutic areas range from oral contraceptives, to oncology, to specialty medicine, to anti-infectives, just to name a few. We keep patients at the forefront of everything we do, working as a team, every day, to manufacture the highest quality medicines in a reliable and agile manner.

    ++Gene Therapy:++ Gene Therapy Stage 2 Commercial Operations is the largest facility on the Sanford site. There is no other Gene Therapy commercial operations facility like it in the world at over 118K sqft with 8 x 2,000L bioreactors, split between two identical Cell Culture processing suites (4 x 2K bioreactors per) and two identical Purification downstream operations suites. Nearly all the processing is done with single use components / technology. Operations is split into 5 different Process Centric Teams: Upstream Ops, Downstream Ops, Drug Product Ops (filling, inspection), Solutions Preparation Ops (Media & Buffer), and Business Support (Process & Automation Engineers, Compliance, Project Management)

    ++External Supply Quality (ESQ):++

    Project assignments will be focused on supporting a variety of areas and initiatives related to our global 3rd party Contractors. These projects could include process improvement, safety, technical writing and review, project management, process engineering, and other inter-departmental collaboration on projects.  Projects will be both individual and team based.  Outside of specific assignments and general education programs, Summer Development participants will be paired with a supervisor / mentor that will offer support and ensure success and professional growth within this program.  ESQ’s products includes pharmaceuticals, biologics, gene therapies, vaccines, and medical devices.  ​

    ++Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API):++ Will work collaboratively with a team to support production facilities with process monitoring, safety & environmental improvements, troubleshooting, process reliability improvements, validation, and technology transfers.

    Minimum Qualifications

    In order to be eligible, you must:

    • Be immediately authorized to work in the U.S. This Program can not support applicants who require employer sponsored visas now or in the future.
    • Be at least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date
    • Be currently enrolled and will have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies by May of 2023
    • Have a strong academic performance (3.0 or higher preferred)
    • Be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program for the semester immediately following the summer 2023 program

    If I apply, when will I know if I am selected?

    Given the highly competitive nature of the program, we cannot guarantee that all applicants will be placed. We conduct interviews on a rolling basis; students are contacted if they are selected by managers for an interview. Interviews typically occur between September through Novermber. Applicants who are not selected for a position will be notified via email by mid-December. Communications are delivered to the email address you provide when you register. An Applicant Tracking System is utilized to issue these emails so, please be sure to check your inbox or spam folder frequently.

    When do the assignments begin and end?

    Typically, assignments begin in May and last through August, depending on business needs and your availability.

    Where are assignments located?

    Most positions will require an on-site presence. The online application will ask you to identify which location(s) you prefer.

    If I participated in the program in the past, can I apply again for this summer?

    There are no restrictions to how many years you can participate in the program.
