    Position Summary

Pharmaceutical Candidate Optimization (PCO) at Bristol-Myers Squibb is seeking highly motivated undergraduate students interested in a summer internship program that offers scientific research in a team-oriented and fast-paced environment.  PCO works with colleagues within Discovery organizations, including biology and chemistry, to support the drug discovery process to identify high quality drug candidates for clinical development.  This encompasses drug pharmaceutics and bioanalytical sciences, discovery toxicology, and drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics.

The internship will include understanding of the hypothesis-driven investigations that enable scientists to present data that supports informed decision-making throughout the drug development process, therefore contributing to greater potential success of drug candidates.  These studies can include but are not limited to: a) understanding toxicity associated with drug target or drug candidates, b) the determination of how a drug enters, moves through and exits the body therefore affecting the drug concentration in the body [i.e. Pharmacokinetics (absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion], c) determining appropriate drug formulations, technologies, and systems for administering a drug.  Students will be assigned to a specific project that provides the basis for an industry experience for learning new technologies and/or developing new methods in drug discovery and optimization.

In addition, students will be mentored in development of critical thinking, collaborative relationships, and scientific writing/presentation skills.  During the internship students will have the opportunity to interact with team members across PCO and explore the various roles and responsibilities across Research and Early Development that are integrated to develop successful drug discovery pipelines in the industry.

For consideration, please submit application by DECEMBER 20, 2021.
