Catalent Pharma in San Diego, CA is hiring a Pharmaceutical Chemist I (Oral Formulation). An individual at the level of Chemist I will be expected to understand and execute basic oral formulation procedures in order to begin to develop preclinical and human clinical oral drug products under limited supervision. Formulation techniques to be introduced may include blending, milling, compression, solubility assessments, capsule filling, blend sampling, tablet coating, granulation, and spray drying. The individual may be expected to become familiar with many common pharmaceutical excipients and assist in the formulation of new drug products under supervision. All duties will be performed in compliance with company standard operating procedures (SOPs) and GMP regulations, as appropriate. In concert with Catalent’s Patient First philosophy, this position is key in our efforts toward continuous improvement of our processes & information which will allow quality drug products to reach patients safely and efficiently.

This is a full-time role position: Monday – Friday, days.

THE ROLE (DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES)

• Conduct formulation development activities under supervision

• Prepare reports, summaries, protocols, batch records, and quantitative analyses

• Clear and accurate record keeping in laboratory notebooks and some secondary review of other colleagues’ work for scientific accuracy and compliance, as assigned by supervisor.

• Impact of decisions limited to their personal workload

• Client interaction will be supported by supervisor

• Development of problem solving skills for experimental outcomes

• Maintain a high level of professional expertise through familiarity with scientific literature

• Experimental design and execution will be under a supervisor’s direction

• Impact of decisions limited to their personal workload

• Training on scientific techniques, GMPs, and ICH guidances is emphasized

• Comply with good housekeeping and safety practices

• Personnel management is not expected

• Other duties as assigned.

THE CANDIDATE (REQUIREMENTS):

• 4 year degree in a physical, chemical, biological, or pharmaceutical science required

• BS with 0+ years of experiencein oral formulation development

• Physical Requirements: must be able to lift 20lbs and sit/stand for long periods of time.
