    Position Summary

The Small Molecule Drug Discovery (SMDD) Discovery & Translational Proteomics team is seeking a talented and  enthusiastic Postdoctoral Fellow who will advance a state-of-the proteomics platform and apply it to the study of small molecule protein degraders. This is a unique opportunity to impact the undruggable target space in drug discovery using state-of-the-art technology. The successful candidate will work at the intersection of chemical biology, medicinal chemistry, immunology, analytical chemistry/bioinformatics, and will possess an enthusiasm for drug discovery, strong scientific curiosity, and aptitude for learning. The postdoc will be supported by a cross-functional team of mentors and collaborators who are leaders in their respective fields. The postdoc will lead communication of the team’s findings in high-impact publications. Previous experience with mass spectrometry is not required.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Generate comprehensive global protein degradation profiles of a small library of protein degraders in primary single cell subtypes.

    • Develop bioinformatic tools to analyze single-cell proteomes in collaboration with colleagues in Information and Predictive Sciences (IPS) by applying deep learning/machine learning approaches.

    • Analyze structure-activity relationships and generate mechanistic understanding of degradation including on- and off-target effects and temporal dynamics.

    • Deepen biological understanding of novel molecular interactions by performing cell-based functional assays.

    • Optimize the acquisition of single-cell proteomes using state-of-the-art LC-MS systems including hands-on instrument operation.

    • Establish an efficient, automated, one-pot sample processing workflow in collaboration with proteomics team members.

    • Isolate single cells using both fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) and image-based cell selection using a cellenONE dispenser.

    • Perform proteomics data analysis using commercially available or free software.

    • Communicate findings to the team, create and present research updates, and lead the generation of publications

    • Maintain electronic laboratory notebooks

    • Comply with laboratory safety practices

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Ph.D. in biological or chemical science (analytical chemistry, chemical biology, immunology, cell/molecular biology, or related discipline).

    • Self-starter who can drive projects while collaborating effectively in a cross-functional team.

    • Proteomics mass spectrometry experience including large scale or automated sample preparation, instrument operation, or high-density proteomics data analysis.

    • Passion for enabling drug discovery, technology development, and working at the intersection of biology, medicinal chemistry, and pathophysiology.

    • Demonstrated ability to analyze and present complex data sets.

    • Track record of high-impact publications in peer-reviewed journals.

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

    Optional qualifications

    • Experience working at the bench at the interface of multiple subjects and communicating results to cross-functional teams.

    • Chemical biology or pharmacology experience determining small molecule mechanism-of-action and/or compound-target interactions.

    • Expertise in isolation and characterization of primary immune cells.

    • Experience with single-cell techniques such as CyTOF or single cell sequencing.

    • Expertise in machine learning, statistics, and the fundamental programming tools of bioinformatics and computational biology (e.g. R or Python)
