Allergan Aesthetics, an AbbVie Company, is seeking a highly motivated, hands-on experimentalist for the role of Scientist I, Biological Research within the Toxin Innovation program. The successful candidate will be a key member of a bioanalytical team, supporting the identification and characterization of novel biotherapeutics with improved efficacy, selectivity, and developability. As part of a matrixed organization, he/she/they will have a critical role in developing and executing protein characterization and quality control strategies using analytical discovery approaches to select, optimize, and prioritize therapeutic protein candidates for advancement.

The Scientist I is responsible for the biophysical characterization of early-stage discovery proteins. She/He/They must possess extensive expertise in analytical separation techniques (HPLC, SEC, IEX, RP, HIC, etc.). Proficiency with HPLC systems and the ability to develop, optimize, and execute analytical studies to characterize proteins is a requirement. Experience with additional techniques such as capillary electrophoresis, DSF, DLS, CD, mass spectrometry, and SPR is beneficial. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of biophysical concepts such as protein structure, kinetics, electrostatics, and enzymatic reactions and an understanding of molecular biology and protein engineering strategies. The candidate is expected to execute experiments with substantial independence. The candidate is expected to participate in scientific discussions regarding the design of experiments and, with guidance, be able to develop or modify or new protocols and methods.

The position requires the candidate to productively interact with cross-functional and matrixed teams. He/She/They will be skilled in communicating and collaborating with discovery project team members at all grade levels and with diverse backgrounds, skill sets, and levels of expertise.
