    Position Summary

    We are seeking a highly motivated intern to join our Translational Bioinformatics Late-Stage Immunology, Cardiovascular, Fibrosis, and Neurology (ICFN) team within the Informatics and Predictive Sciences group. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to apply machine learning techniques to identify molecular signatures associated with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (a genetic heart muscle disease) progression or response to treatment. You will actively engage in scientific discussions, meetings, and presentations within our diverse research group. This internship offers hands-on experience in computational and systems biology, contributing to real-world drug discovery challenges and enhancing your skills in data analysis, network biology, and machine learning.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Work on projects related to target identification and patient stratification using multiomics datasets (e.g. genetics, proteomics) from late-stage clinical trials.
    • Apply advanced techniques to extract meaningful patterns and identify key molecular features relevant to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
    • Utilize clustering approaches to uncover intricate relationships within hypertrophic cardiomyopathy pathways and molecular interactions.
    • Implement machine learning methodologies to identify and characterize molecular signatures.
    • Actively participate in meetings and scientific discussions, sharing insights and findings with team members.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including biologists, data science and engineering groups, translational medicine, and biomarker teams.
    • Prepare and deliver presentations to effectively communicate research findings, methodologies, and insights to both technical and non-technical audiences.

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Currently pursuing a PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a related discipline.
    • An introductory statistics course and/or a basic understanding of linear regression
    • Experience working with high-throughput data and familiarity with data analysis techniques(e.g.WGCNA) using R.
    • Self-motivated with a strong desire to learn and actively contribute to the drug development process.
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex concepts to diverse audiences.

    The starting compensation for this job is a range from $34.00 - $43.00/hour. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and the geographic location where work is performed. Final, individual compensation is decided commensurate with demonstrated experience and education level.
