    Position Summary

    Translation Early Development/ Immunology group is seeking a summer intern to carry out biomarker studies in patient samples.

    The summer intern will participate in an ongoing program in a dynamic small research group and should be capable of working in a fast-paced environment and will gain an understanding of translational work needed to support drug discovery efforts. The individual should be competent to work in a lab and will determine the levels of various disease activity markers in tissue samples from patients with various inflammatory/immunological diseases and compare them to samples from healthy donors using a variety of technology platforms. The individual will then present the findings in lab meetings. Strong problem solving and time management skills are essential to complete diverse assigned tasks. Knowledge and skills in analysis of large datasets are a plus.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Under supervision, carry out a variety of molecular biology assays (Western blot, qPCR) tissue-based assays (IHC, mIF, ISH, histological stains) generating high-quality data to help in biomarker studies with ongoing program.
    • Use instrumentation to perform experiments (Leica and Ventana autostainer)
    • Analyze data (digital image analysis), record experimental details, and support the translational research program.
    • Maintain notebook, laboratory equipment, and supplies relevant to the project.
    • Search literature for targeted information

    Skills/Knowledge Required:

    • Proficiency in molecular and cell biology laboratory techniques
    • Proficiency with Microsoft office applications
    • Possess knowledge of experimental design and underlying scientific principles
    • Excellent organizational, record keeping, oral and written communication skills
    • Team player, detail oriented and organized

    Functional/Scientific/Technical Skills:

    • Basic lab skills
    • Properly maintain lab notebook (documentations e.g. worksheet, CTR, ELN, etc.)
    • Understand and follow protocols
    • Data Collection

    • Follows directions to complete assigned tasks under close supervision
    • Reports problems and solicits direction from Supervisor and/or peers
