Of Counsel/Partner Position in San Jose, CA (work less, make more)

We represent a boutique San Jose law firm looking to add full-time Of Counsel/Partner attorneys in one or more complementary practice areas. The firm’s core practice currently emphasizes multi generational estate, wealth, and tax planning for high net worth individuals and their closely held businesses, trust/probate administrations, and tax controversies. Typical clients include family business owners, real estate and agribusiness owners, venture capitalists, entrepreneurs, trust beneficiaries, and professional fiduciaries. The firm is interested in adding Of Counsel attorneys in one or more of the following adjacent practice areas:

- Corporate/mergers and acquisitions (focusing on closely held businesses)

- Trust and estate litigation

- Real estate/leases/related transactions

- International estate/wealth/tax planning

- Family law/divorce focusing on high-net worth individuals

- Other practice areas sufficiently complimentary to the firm’s existing practice

This lifestyle firm is focused on the future and is willing to generously compensate the right candidates. There is no annual billable requirement. Instead, compensation is calculated as a percentage of collections from the Of Counsel attorney’s own billable efforts (i.e., 50% to 65%+ of such collections, depending on the candidate and their book of business). The position comes with full benefits, and there is no direct responsibility for shared firm expenses (e.g., rent, malpractice insurance, administrative overhead, etc.).”

I honestly think our firm would be a great fit for a mid-level attorney who is sick of “big law” and wants more work/life balance. The ideal candidate would have a book that would generate at least 1200 hours of their own work, and we’ll fill in the rest. I’m open to bringing people on as either a salaried associate, or “of-counsel” based on a generous percentage of their collections.
