    This role is dedicated to U.S. Local Regulatory and Production Policy, focusing on studio locations in California, New Jersey, New Mexico, and New York within the UCAN Public Policy team. The position is based in Los Angeles, California, with significant travel.

    The UCAN Public Policy team within Global Affairs advocates for a legislative and regulatory environment conducive to growth in the U.S. and Canada and serves as a strategic partner to internal business groups as they navigate the policy world.

    About the Role

    As part of this team, the successful candidate will be a key leader in helping Netflix productions succeed across the country. You will work closely with film commissions, governors' offices, state and local officials, and other stakeholders to proactively remove impediments to production by developing and advocating for sound policies and streamlined processes that enable efficient production and support the permitting and zoning needs of Netflix House projects nationwide. Additionally, you will collaborate with industry partners to clearly communicate the qualitative and quantitative economic benefits of film production at the state and local level.

    Responsibilities

    • Develop and advocate for laws and policies that streamline production processes, including permitting, zoning, and regulatory compliance, at both state and local levels.
    • Advocate for sound production incentive and regulatory streamlining legislation, representing Netflix's interests in legislative hearings, industry forums, and stakeholder meetings.
    • Support Netflix House zoning and permitting efforts across the country, coordinating closely with internal real estate, construction, and studio management teams.
    • Ensure Netflix compliance with incentive reporting requirements
    • Partner with industry organizations to develop and deliver clear messaging on the qualitative and quantitative economic benefits of film and television production to state and local governments.
    • Leverage data and analysis to inform policy positions and demonstrate the value of production activity to communities and policymakers.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in government affairs, public policy, or a related field.
    • Deep understanding of state and local regulatory processes affecting film and television production, including permitting and zoning.
    • Demonstrated success in advocating for policy change and supporting large, complex projects in a highly regulated environment.
    • Experience working with film commissions, state and local governments, and regulatory agencies.
    • Proven ability to build strong relationships and collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including industry partners and government officials.
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and persuasively.
    • Experience developing and delivering data-driven policy messages to support business objectives.
    • Experience working with or within studios, technology companies, regulatory or governmental agencies, or industry associations is helpful but not required.
    • Willingness to travel frequently.

    Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top-of-market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience. The range for this role is $400,000−$700,000.
