Grant Writer Success Factors
Secure Strategic Funding
Identify and research funding opportunities from federal, state, corporate, foundation, and private sources that align with AHF’s mission and priorities.
Collaborate with program managers to develop logic models, measurable objectives, and competitive proposals.
Write persuasive, well-researched proposals and applications that inspire funder confidence.
Build budgets in partnership with the Director of Finance that are accurate, compelling, and aligned with project goals.
Ensure Proposal Excellence and Compliance
Lead a structured review process so all proposals meet quality, compliance, and funder requirements before submission.
Maintain a master grant calendar to track opportunities, deadlines, and reporting obligations.
Manage timelines across multiple projects to ensure on-time submissions and seamless reporting.
Translate complex program details into clear, data-driven narratives that stand out to reviewers.
Respond to internal and external queries on drafted and submitted proposals.
Foster Internal and External Collaboration
Cultivate partnerships with community agencies, educational institutions, government entities, financial institutions, corporations, and faith-based organizations serving low-income and at-risk populations.
Collaborate with property teams to secure letters of support, negotiate collaborations, and present compelling proposals to funders.
Provide regular updates to leadership and committees on funding pursuits, outcomes, and impact.
Work with Compliance and property teams to transition awarded grants into implementation and ensure deliverables are achieved.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, creative writing, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Minimum of five years’ successful grant writing experience with a proven record of securing major grants.
Previous federal grant application, submission, and approval experience preferred.
Excellent knowledge of proposal submission and fundraising processes.
Experience developing grant budgets.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Skilled in research, analysis, and aligning funding opportunities with organizational needs.
Proficient in Google Workspace.
Ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders, including staff, board members, partners, and donors.
