    Job Description

    We are looking for a smart, energetic, and self-motivated individual who, under the direction of the Senior Vice President of Business Development, will assist in a broad range of real estate development and support activities specifically related to the feasibility and acquisition phases of our work

    The Intern will assist Abode Communities’ Business Development Group staff with a wide range of real estate development-related activities and research varying from financing and feasibility analysis to community outreach and entitlements.

    POTENTIAL PROJECTS INCLUDE:

    • Identifying and analyzing development and preservation opportunities in targeted market areas; 
    • Assisting with due diligence review and analysis for properties in escrow planned for new construction;
    • Assisting with acquisition financing applications and loan closings; 
    • Researching and tracking local, state, and federal funding opportunities, regulation changes, and policies that impact affordable housing development; 
    • Analyzing feasibility of sites for development identified in various cities’ Housing Elements and/or Long Range Property Management Plans; and
    •  Assisting with preparing development proposals and statements of qualifications in response to Requests for Proposals and Requests for Qualifications.

    You are inquisitive, hardworking, and personable. You are thorough, ready to help and capable of working independently with direction, but also as a team member. You can work comfortably with deadlines. You possess the following skills, knowledge & abilities:

    • A strong interest in supporting the organization’s mission and a desire to learn more about real estate development.
    • Presently hold an undergraduate degree in business, economics or urban planning and/or are earning a master’s degree in urban planning, real estate development, finance, business or a related field;
    • Demonstrated planning and organizing skills;
    • Strong math and analytical abilities;
    • Basic understanding of real estate development concepts and principals;
    • Strong verbal communication skills and clear writing ability;
    • Proficiency with computer word-processing and spreadsheet programs, such as Excel and Microsoft Word;
    • Capacity to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in an organized, efficient and timely manner; and,
    • Valid California driver's license and availability of an insured vehicle to travel within Abode Communities’ service area.

    COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

    The salary for this role is $20/HOUR. The incumbent is expected to work 20 hours per week during the school year and up to 35 hours per week during the summer term. This role is not benefits eligible but candidates are eligible for sick time upon 90 days of hire.
