    THE OPPORTUNITY

    Netflix seeks an experienced entertainment attorney to join the Business Affairs team focused on the development, production, and licensing/acquisition of live action unscripted, scripted, and animated content for the Kids & Family team. The candidate will be the primary legal contact for productions, and will collaborate with and ensure information flow to internal business partners (e.g., Content), cross-functional partners (e.g., production, consumer products, games, intellectual property, employment, labor, tax, and marketing), and other key partners (e.g., finance, contract administration, legal operations), and take on a wide-range of responsibilities including:

    • negotiating all manner of original and licensed programming agreements, including production services agreements, above-the-line talent deals (e.g., writer, producer, director, actor), rights deals, and licensing/acquisition deals; drafting and negotiating longform agreements for all of the foregoing, with a keen understanding of industry standard and deal contexts;
    • overseeing projects throughout all stages from script development through post-production and exhibition on Netflix's global streaming service from a business and legal standpoint, with the ability to navigate through complex matters that arise during the production lifecycle;
    • Serving as a strategic partner to help manage the voluminous Kids & Family slate across various content mediums and runtimes (e.g., live action and animated unscripted and scripted series, specials, and shorts).

    The role requires dexterity with traditional business and legal affairs issues and challenges, but also an eagerness to cover a lot more ground than a conventional business and legal affairs role - of paramount importance is an ability to thrive in ambiguity and without established parameters as we continue to build out our slate and strategy! The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with significant volume, managing and taking ownership of multiple projects with different Business Affairs team members, working under tight timeframes, and remaining calm, collaborative, and effective throughout. While the role supports productions primarily based in UCAN, experience in managing productions outside of UCAN is valued.

    REQUIREMENTS

    The successful candidate will have at least 10 years of entertainment business affairs and legal experience working at a streamer/network/studio or production company; prior law firm experience is also valued. TV experience is required. Additional requirements include:

    • Understanding of and familiarity with unscripted and scripted series production process, and especially the business and legal affairs of series production.
    • Exceptional critical thinking skills marked by an ability to analyze business needs, and drive strategic results in the deal-making process, with a solutions-oriented mindset.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to cultivate internal and external relationships.
    • Willingness to innovate and engage in creative problem-solving.
    • Ability to work independently and adaptability to pivot as necessary, especially in the wake of change.
    • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally, possessing the confidence to counsel business partners in making decisions that have legal & business impacts.
    • Excellent project and time management skills.
    • Curiosity and openness to learn and apply learnings to evolve.
    • Tech-savvy individual, including proficiency with Google Suite and cloud-based document and database systems.
    • Ability to flourish in our unique company culture, reflecting our values and leadership expectations.
