Role Overview
HOK is seeking an experienced Architectural Project Manager to join its Austin studio. This role balances project leadership, studio operational support, and business development collaboration, serving as a critical connector between clients, consultants, leadership, and internal project teams.
The Project Manager partners closely with the Project Architect and Project Designer to deliver projects across all phases—ensuring design intent, financial performance, schedule adherence, and team leadership excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Project ManagementLead one or more project teams as Project Manager.
Develop project scope, fee, schedule, and services during marketing and contract development.
Prepare and manage consultant contracts; assist with fee and contract negotiations.
Establish and manage project budgets, staffing plans, schedules, and deliverables using HOK’s Project Management system.
Ensure quality management and sustainable design solutions are integrated throughout the project lifecycle.
Provide leadership and continuity during construction administration.
Maintain accurate project documentation including work plans, budgets, change notices, and cost tracking.
Foster sustainable workplace practices and support HOK’s environmental commitments.
Serve as the primary point of contact for clients.
Maintain, foster, and steward client relationships throughout the project lifecycle.
Communicate project progress clearly and consistently.
Lead client presentations and assist in preparing meeting materials and design collateral.
Coordinate with consultants and stakeholders to resolve technical and scope-related issues.
Lead programming efforts to determine spatial, functional, and budget requirements.
Collaborate with design teams to integrate architectural and engineering elements into cohesive solutions.
Support the Practice Leader and Principal-Designer in Austin studio operations.
Foster collaboration with Regional Leadership, national HOK business leaders, and consultant teams.
Participate in the development of the annual business plan for the Austin office.
Identify new business opportunities and support relationship development with existing clients.
Assist with fee proposals and selected marketing pursuits.
Attend industry and client events to strengthen market presence and partnerships.
Provide mentorship, coaching, and professional development support to staff.
Define staffing needs for projects and recommend promotions or staffing changes to leadership.
Participate in recruiting and interviewing efforts as needed.
Skills & Competencies
Strong command of project work plans, schedules, staffing, and budgets.
Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
Proven leadership, communication, and team collaboration skills.
Deep understanding of design trends, construction methodologies, and construction documentation.
Knowledge of BIM and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Advanced understanding of sustainability, integrated design, and LEED principles preferred.
Proficiency in Revit preferred.
Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint preferred.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or equivalent required.
Licensed Architect with current registration required.
NCARB certification preferred.
Minimum 8 years of architectural experience, including at least 3 years in a project management role.
Experience leading projects through all phases, including post-occupancy.
LEED credential required within 6 months of employment start date.
