About the Role
An opportunity is available for an experienced Civil Engineering Department Manager to lead the civil engineering group in a full-time, on-site or hybrid capacity based in Downtown Los Angeles, CA. This leadership position involves overseeing project delivery, mentoring technical staff, driving business development, and contributing to the strategic growth of a high-performing multidisciplinary office.
What You’ll Do
Manage civil engineering department operations, including staffing, performance reviews, and resource allocation.
Provide technical oversight and direction on civil engineering design, including site development, grading, drainage, utilities, stormwater systems, and permitting.
Lead multidisciplinary project teams to deliver work on time, within budget, and to client standards.
Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, consultants, and public agencies.
Develop scopes of work, budgets, fee proposals, and manage project financials.
Cultivate client relationships and actively pursue new business opportunities.
Mentor and guide junior and mid-level staff to support their technical and professional growth.
Ensure compliance with local regulations, permitting processes, and applicable design standards.
Collaborate across disciplines and office locations to deliver integrated solutions.
What You Bring
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
Active California Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Minimum of 10 years of professional civil engineering experience in the U.S. (California-specific experience preferred).
Demonstrated leadership and staff management experience.
Proven project management and client relationship skills.
Excellent communication and coordination abilities.
Preferred:
Experience managing multidisciplinary design teams.
Proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Knowledge of City of Los Angeles permitting, zoning entitlements, and public utility infrastructure.
Background in business development and proposal preparation.
Involvement in local professional organizations (e.g., ASCE, APWA).
Familiarity with energy storage systems and sustainable design practices.
