Position Overview
The Highway Design Project Manager will lead the planning and execution of roadway and transportation infrastructure projects for DOT and municipal clients. This role is responsible for managing project teams, overseeing technical delivery, and maintaining strong client relationships. The position combines leadership, project management, and hands-on involvement in highway design, with a focus on delivering high-quality, compliant, and efficient engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage highway design projects from concept through completion for DOT and municipal clients
Direct multidisciplinary teams to deliver roadway and bridge design solutions
Serve as the primary client point of contact, ensuring clear communication and project alignment
Oversee project schedules, budgets, and deliverables to ensure on-time and compliant execution
Apply DOT standards, guidelines, and permitting requirements across all project phases
Utilize Bentley software, including MicroStation and OpenRoads, for design and project execution
Mentor and support junior engineers and technical staff
Coordinate with internal teams across transportation planning, traffic engineering, and construction administration
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
Professional Engineer (PE) license required
Minimum 5+ years of highway design and project management experience
Strong understanding of DOT standards and project delivery processes
Proficiency with Bentley software (MicroStation and OpenRoads)
Proven leadership, organizational, and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Kansas or Oklahoma DOT projects
Familiarity with regional DOT standards and practices
