Position Overview

Are you a technical visionary ready to command the life-safety and fluid systems of New York’s most complex skylines? We are seeking a Lead Plumbing & Fire Protection Designer to serve as a cornerstone of our MEP division. In this high-impact role, you will transcend traditional production to become a strategic project leader, architecting sophisticated trade-specific schematics and steering a talented design team from initial survey through final construction administration.

Core Responsibilities

• System Architecture & Leadership: Lead the end-to-end design of complex plumbing and fire protection systems, ensuring functional mastery and technical integrity across all project phases.

• Team Command: Supervise and mentor a dedicated team of design professionals, fostering a culture of high performance, accountability, and continuous technical growth.

• Technical Stewardship: Perform independent, advanced engineering calculations, troubleshoot existing systems, and generate comprehensive specifications that exceed industry standards.

• Stakeholder Integration: Act as the primary point of contact for project stakeholders, translating complex technical requirements into actionable design solutions through superior communication.

• Project Oversight: Serve as the "Job Captain," managing strict timelines and multi-project workflows while maintaining composure and precision in a high-pressure environment.

• Construction Administration: Lead the field observation process, oversee shop drawing reviews, and prepare authoritative reports to ensure design intent is realized on-site.

• BIM & CAD Strategy: Utilize advanced AutoCAD and Revit workflows to develop professional templates, complex geometries, and streamlined drafting tasks that set the firm’s standard for quality.

Required Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.

• Experience: Minimum of 6 years in a Designer capacity, including at least 2 years in a Senior or Lead Role within a professional engineering consultancy.

• Leadership: Proven track record of managing engineering teams and overseeing projects of varying scale and complexity for at least 2 years.

• Software Proficiency: Advanced command of Revit and AutoCAD, with the ability to manage multi-scale views, global entity editing, and custom linetype creation.

• Technical Mastery: Deep knowledge of NYC building codes, NFPA standards, and advanced plumbing/fire protection design principles.

Preferred Qualifications

• Licensure: Active Professional Engineering (PE) License.

• Advanced Competency: Demonstrated ability to educate Level 2 engineers and develop internal company design standards.

• Project Management: Repeated success in navigating the full project lifecycle with minimal oversight.
