Position Overview
Matern is seeking a Plumbing Designer / Engineer to join their growing team in Maitland, FL. This is a high-impact, full-cycle design role where you will contribute to the engineering of complex building systems from concept through construction administration.
You will be responsible for the design, layout, and coordination of plumbing systems across a variety of project types, working alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams, architects, and clients.

Key Responsibilities
Design and develop plumbing systems for commercial and institutional buildings, including:
Sanitary and vent systems
Domestic cold and hot water systems
Storm drainage systems
Grease waste systems
Compressed air and specialty gas piping systems
Produce and coordinate construction documents using Revit (BIM environment)
Perform system sizing, layout, and equipment selection in accordance with applicable codes
Collaborate with:
Mechanical and electrical engineers
Architects and project stakeholders
Clients and contractors
Review and redline:
Shop drawings
Vendor submittals
Architectural and engineering plans
Conduct code research and compliance analysis (local, state, and national plumbing codes)
Interface with city, county, and state agencies for permitting and approvals
Participate in site visits, field investigations, and construction administration
Troubleshoot design and field issues with practical, buildable solutions
Required Qualifications
2+ years of plumbing design experience within an MEP consulting firm environment
Strong working knowledge of:
Plumbing system design principles
Applicable plumbing codes and standards
Proficiency in:
Revit (required)
AutoCAD (preferred)
Experience with:
Commercial, healthcare, education, or government projects
Strong communication and coordination skills
Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, deadline-driven environment
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (for salaried track)
EIT or PE track candidates strongly encouraged
3–10+ years of experience for mid-to-senior level consideration
Experience with healthcare or institutional projects (highly valued)
Compensation & Structure
$70K – $100K+ base salary depending on experience
Non-degreed candidates: Hourly + 1.5x overtime eligibility
Degreed engineers: Salaried

Important Hiring Criteria
Must have plumbing design experience in MEP consulting (buildings)
Fire protection-only experience is NOT sufficient
No oil & gas, industrial piping, or non-building system backgrounds
Must be comfortable working 100% in-office (Maitland, FL)
