    Compensation: Up to $150,000 base + 15% bonus

    Position Overview

    Our confidential client, a global power distribution and infrastructure solutions provider similar to WESCO International, is seeking a Senior Application Engineer to join its Grid Services team.

    This role supports and develops technical sales proposals for high voltage substation projects, products, systems, and services, acting as the engineering lead throughout the RFQ lifecycle—from proposal development through installation and commissioning.

    The position blends technical engineering expertise with commercial proposal development, requiring a senior-level professional who can quickly assess customer requirements, develop technically sound solutions, and deliver competitive bids that meet specification requirements.

    The ideal candidate brings deep experience with high voltage substation apparatus, including major equipment such as main power transformers, circuit breakers, and disconnect switches, and is capable of stepping into a fast-moving proposal environment with minimal ramp-up time.

    Location Preference

    This role can be remote for the right candidate, though the hiring team prefers candidates located near company offices or within key utility markets.

    Preferred geographic regions include:

    • Texas

    • Southeast United States

    • Midwest United States

    Candidates located centrally within the U.S. or along the East Coast are strongly preferred due to travel and customer proximity.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Serve as a technical subject matter expert on high voltage substation equipment and solutions.

    • Lead the engineering portion of the RFQ process, ensuring proposals meet technical specifications and customer requirements.

    • Develop technical sales proposals including equipment selections, system configurations, and engineering deliverables.

    • Provide pre-sales engineering support, including specification reviews, equipment compatibility verification, and system design guidance.

    • Support post-sales activities, ensuring equipment is successfully installed, commissioned, and supported.

    • Act as a technical liaison between customers, internal teams, and manufacturers during project execution.

    • Prepare bill of materials, cost estimates, engineering hours, installation scope, and commissioning requirements for proposals.

    • Develop technical clarifications, assumptions, and exceptions within proposal packages.

    • Assist sales teams in identifying new opportunities and presenting technical solutions to customers.

    • Participate in customer meetings, vendor coordination, and technical solution discussions.

    • Maintain strong relationships with vendor product managers and manufacturer partners.

    • Monitor industry trends, technical developments, and market conditions affecting power systems infrastructure.

    • Participate in ongoing training to maintain technical competency in power system products and equipment.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical discipline.

    • 5+ years of experience working with high voltage substation equipment.

    • 5+ years of experience in applications engineering, technical sales engineering, or power systems product sales.

    • Extensive experience with high voltage apparatus equipment, including:

      • Main power transformers

      • Instrument transformers

      • Circuit breakers

      • Disconnect switches

    • Strong understanding of industry standards and specifications, including:

      • IEEE

      • ANSI

      • NEMA

      • UL

      • IEC

    • Experience developing technical proposals, bids, and RFQ responses.

    • Ability to interpret and respond to complex customer specifications.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Master’s degree in Engineering.

    • 7+ years of experience in power systems equipment applications or proposal engineering.

    • Experience leading or coordinating multidisciplinary engineering and sales teams.

    • Experience facilitating technical workshops, proposal reviews, and solution discussions.

    • Ability to obtain and maintain vendor certifications for specialized power equipment.

    • Experience coaching technical teams and supporting customer-facing sales organizations.
