This is a strategic leadership opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer with deep healthcare expertise to drive the design and execution of complex, mission-critical healthcare facilities. In this role, you will serve as a Healthcare Subject Matter Expert (SME), leading multidisciplinary teams through the delivery of highly technical mechanical systems that support patient safety, infection control, operational continuity, and long-term facility performance.

Healthcare environments demand precision, resiliency, and innovation—and this position places you at the center of that mission. You will lead the design of advanced HVAC and building systems for critical healthcare spaces including operating rooms, isolation suites, sterile processing departments, and acute care environments. Beyond technical leadership, this role offers the opportunity to mentor engineers, influence healthcare design strategy, and help shape the future of high-performance medical environments across Texas and beyond.

    Core Responsibilities

    • Lead mechanical system design for healthcare facilities as Designer of Record (DOR)
    • Develop HVAC, plumbing, and medical gas system solutions that prioritize infection control, patient safety, and operational resiliency
    • Perform engineering calculations, technical analysis, and healthcare-specific system evaluations
    • Design systems in compliance with ASHRAE 170, FGI Guidelines, NFPA 99, IMC, IPC, and IBC requirements
    • Conduct internal technical reviews to ensure design quality, consistency, and compliance
    • Prepare and review technical specifications, narratives, and construction documentation
    • Review shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs while supporting construction administration activities
    • Coordinate closely with architects, healthcare planners, clinicians, and multidisciplinary engineering teams
    • Lead project execution including budgets, schedules, staffing, and technical deliverables
    • Participate in client meetings, presentations, and healthcare planning discussions
    • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical training on healthcare engineering best practices
    • Support business development efforts, proposals, and client relationship management within the healthcare sector

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering (Mechanical Focus)
    • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
    • 10+ years of mechanical building systems design experience
    • Minimum 5 years of healthcare facility engineering experience
    • Strong expertise in HVAC systems and controls for healthcare environments
    • Advanced knowledge of ASHRAE 170, FGI Guidelines, NFPA 99, IMC, IPC, and IBC
    • Experience preparing technical specifications and engineering narratives
    • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite
    • Strong communication, leadership, and project management skills
    • Ability to mentor engineers and lead multidisciplinary coordination efforts
    • Ability to travel occasionally to project sites

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Design-Build project delivery experience
    • Familiarity with UFC and UFGS standards
    • Plumbing design experience
