    A leading multi-disciplinary design firm is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Roadway Engineer (Engineer IV) to join their growing Transportation Division.     About the Role

    As a Senior Roadway Engineer (Engineer IV), you’ll lead complex civil roadway design efforts and manage engineering teams to deliver high-quality solutions for clients including state DOTs, counties, and municipalities. You’ll take ownership of project phases from concept through construction documentation and play a key role in mentoring junior staff.

    This position offers hybrid work flexibility from any of the firm’s Midwest offices located in Chicago, Peoria, IL, or Crown Point, IN.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead roadway design projects from preliminary planning through final construction documentation.

    • Direct and support engineers and technicians in preparing plans, specifications, estimates, and technical reports.

    • Prepare horizontal and vertical alignments, ADA-compliant ramps, traffic staging, cross sections, and utility coordination.

    • Apply geometric design principles based on AASHTO, IDOT, INDOT, and local agency standards.

    • Utilize MicroStation and AutoCAD; experience with Civil 3D is a plus.

    • Conduct technical evaluations including pavement design, traffic control, and drainage layout.

    • Serve as the primary liaison with internal teams, clients, subconsultants, and municipal agencies.

    • Perform site visits, lead design charrettes, and provide field support as needed.

    • Ensure quality control and compliance with technical standards and client requirements.

    • Contribute to business development efforts, including proposals and client presentations.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.

    • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Illinois and/or Indiana (required).

    • 5–9 years of progressive experience in roadway or highway design.

    • Proficiency in MicroStation and AutoCAD; experience with Civil 3D is a plus.

    • Strong understanding of AASHTO, IDOT, and INDOT roadway design standards.

    • Excellent communication, documentation, and technical writing skills.

    • Demonstrated experience leading project teams and mentoring junior engineers.

    • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel for site visits or client meetings.
