Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Civil Engineer to lead our civil engineering team in the design, planning, and execution of site development and stormwater management projects. As a Principal Civil Engineer, you will oversee a variety of engineering tasks, working closely with clients, architects, and construction teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions. You will also ensure compliance with environmental regulations, local codes, and project specifications while leading and mentoring a team of engineers and technicians.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the design and execution of site development projects, including land grading, stormwater management, utilities, and roadway design.
Manage all aspects of stormwater planning, including hydrology/hydraulic analysis, drainage system design, and implementation of low-impact development techniques.
Provide engineering leadership for the design and planning of projects related to municipal infrastructure, subdivisions, commercial and industrial sites.
Oversee the preparation of construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and reports, ensuring compliance with local regulations and industry standards.
Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources, ensuring projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
Ensure the integration of sustainable design principles in all projects, including adherence to stormwater best management practices (BMPs).
Coordinate and communicate with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies, ensuring smooth project execution.
Review and approve engineering designs, drawings, and calculations to ensure technical accuracy and compliance.
Mentor and develop junior engineers and staff, providing guidance and support for professional growth and development.
Participate in the permitting process, including preparation of permit applications and addressing agency comments.
Provide leadership and expertise in site development, stormwater design, and engineering solutions across multiple projects.
Conduct site inspections during the construction phase to ensure compliance with design documents, quality standards, and safety protocols.
Maintain professional certifications and stay up-to-date on industry trends, regulations, and new technologies.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in civil engineering with a focus on site development and stormwater management.
Strong expertise in site development, stormwater management, and ownership path processes.
Advanced knowledge of civil engineering software, including AutoCAD Civil 3D, Hydraflow, StormCAD, or similar tools.
Experience with land development permitting and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Proven leadership and project management skills, with a track record of successful project delivery.
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Strong understanding of environmental regulations and sustainable design practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in urban planning or large-scale development projects.
LEED accreditation or other sustainability certifications.
Knowledge of geotechnical engineering, transportation engineering, or other related disciplines.
