Position Overview
Hall Engineering Group seeks a Vice President of Mechanical (HVAC) Design Engineering to lead its mechanical/HVAC discipline across Florida operations. This leadership position is ideal for an experienced mechanical engineer who combines technical depth with business acumen and team leadership.
Reporting directly to executive leadership, this VP will drive innovation in HVAC system design, oversee multidisciplinary project collaboration, and help shape the firm’s growth strategy.
This role can be based in either Tampa FL or Miami FL.
Compensation
Base Salary: $140,000 – $180,000 (Depending on Experience)
Total Compensation Package: $165,000 – $210,000 (including performance incentives, bonus potential, and benefits)
Key Responsibilities
Lead and grow the Mechanical/HVAC discipline statewide; mentor and manage a team of engineers and designers.
Oversee the design and delivery of complex mechanical/HVAC systems across multiple markets, including healthcare, aviation, industrial, and commercial.
Maintain technical excellence and design quality, ensuring compliance with all codes (ASHRAE, SMACNA, NFPA, Florida Building Code).
Collaborate with other discipline leaders (electrical, lighting, commissioning, structural) to deliver fully coordinated MEP solutions.
Drive the adoption of advanced design technology (Revit, BIM, energy modeling, digital collaboration tools).
Develop client relationships, participate in business development efforts, and support proposal and presentation processes.
Manage project budgets, schedules, staffing, and profitability across the mechanical discipline.
Serve as a strategic partner to leadership, contributing to firm-wide planning, recruiting, and operational initiatives.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required (Florida or reciprocity-eligible).
10+ years of mechanical/HVAC design engineering experience with progressive leadership responsibility.
Proven background leading large, multidisciplinary projects and coordinating complex HVAC systems.
Strong technical knowledge in chilled water, VRF, VAV, and central energy plant systems.
Familiarity with Revit/BIM workflows and building performance modeling.
Business development and client-facing experience preferred.
Excellent communication, leadership, and mentorship abilities.
Preferred Experience
Leadership within a multidisciplinary MEP consulting firm.
Expertise in Florida’s climate-based mechanical design standards.
Experience with sustainable design and energy-efficient HVAC strategies.
Track record of developing staff and scaling service lines or offices.
