Position Overview
Are you a visionary mechanical engineering leader ready to steer a discipline, drive statewide expansion, and build a lasting legacy? We are seeking a Vice President of Mechanical (HVAC) Design Engineering to lead and scale our mechanical discipline across Florida operations. In this executive capacity, you will step beyond traditional technical oversight to serve as a pivotal strategic partner, driving HVAC innovation, mentoring a high-performing engineering team, and expanding high-impact market penetration across Florida’s dynamic AEC landscape.
Joining our team means stepping into an agile, highly collaborative, "right-sized" environment that combines the technical resources and multi-sector reach of a large firm with zero corporate bureaucracy. Here, every engineer is empowered to act as a designer, project manager, and owner's representative. You will leverage executive access, direct project ownership, and a strong culture of integrity to shape the firm's growth trajectory while elevating mechanical design excellence statewide.
Core Responsibilities
Statewide Discipline Leadership: Architect, mentor, and grow the statewide Mechanical/HVAC engineering team, nurturing talent and fostering a high-performance culture centered on technical innovation.
Executive Project Delivery: Oversee the end-to-end design and execution of complex, large-scale HVAC systems across primary markets including healthcare, aviation, industrial, commercial, and civic sectors.
Technical Excellence & Compliance: Maintain world-class design standards while ensuring absolute adherence to complex regulatory frameworks and regional requirements (ASHRAE, SMACNA, NFPA, Florida Building Code).
Multidisciplinary Coordination: Partner seamlessly with cross-functional leadership in electrical, lighting, commissioning, and structural engineering to deliver fully integrated, high-efficiency MEP solutions.
Technology & Innovation Strategy: Champion the adoption of advanced design tools, energy modeling, digital collaboration platforms, and Revit/BIM workflows to maintain a competitive technical edge.
Business Development & Growth: Cultivate executive client relationships, lead strategic proposal processes, present winning technical bids, and spearhead the firm's strategic growth initiatives.
Operational & Financial Oversight: Direct group utilization, project budgets, staffing models, schedules, and divisional profitability to ensure sustainable operational performance.
Strategic Firm Partnership: Collaborate directly with executive leadership on firm-wide strategic planning, talent acquisition, and long-term operational scaling.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
Licensure: Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the state of Florida (or active reciprocity eligibility).
Experience: 10+ years of progressive HVAC design engineering experience within an engineering consulting environment, including demonstrated success in direct team leadership.
Software Proficiency: Strong proficiency with Revit/BIM workflows, digital collaboration tools, and building energy modeling software.
Technical Mastery: Deep expertise in complex system design, including chilled water plants, Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF), Variable Air Volume (VAV), and central energy plants.
Preferred Qualifications
Firm Leadership: Prior track record leading and expanding a mechanical or MEP division within a consulting engineering firm.
Regional Expertise: Advanced knowledge of Florida’s unique climate-based mechanical design requirements, humidity control strategies, and regional building standards.
Sustainability & Decarbonization: Proven expertise in sustainable design methodologies, energy efficiency strategies, and LEED/green building certifications.
Client & Commercial Success: Proven capability in business development, revenue expansion, client retention, and winning high-value proposals.
