    SUMMARY:

     

    The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager has the responsibility to identify and control the risks associated with safety, industrial hygiene and environmental matters. Provides direction in effectively interpreting, auditing and deploying safety, hygiene and environmental processes and procedures to meet external regulatory requirements and internal expectations.  Develops, implements and monitors safety programs and policies, while ensuring compliance with local, state and federal health and safety regulations.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    • Oversees and coordinates the planning, implementation and supervision of the Occupational Safety and Health Programs.
    • Ensures, through various audits, inspections, tests and measurement, that shop personnel follow approved maintenance and safety procedures/directives when performing repairs to equipment, services calls, alterations and maintenance repairs.
    • Monitors receiving service calls and maintenance repairs to ensure a safe working environment is established and maintained.
    • Monitors the management systems for compliance with applicable directives governing recall, maintenance, repairs and inspections of necessary support items such as documentation calibration of equipment and material handling devices.
    • Coordinates with Government and Contractor safety representatives on safety related issues and concerns and matters pertaining to unsafe working conditions, emergencies and equipment and personnel hazards.
    • Documents any corrective actions required when violations of approved practices and procedures are noted and performs follow up observations when necessary.
    • Ensures that personnel performing repairs to equipment follow all procedures governing the repair and operation of the applicable equipment and safety practices.
    • Inspects to ensure material handling devices to be used have been recently tested and certified.
    • Performs accident investigations, including the taking of statements and production of analysis of incidents and recommendations for appropriate remedial actions.
    • Ensures compliance with government health and safety regulations.
    • Performs inspections of work sites, including review of hazardous materials, life safety, emergency response, industrial hygiene and fire hazards exposures.
    • Develops post-inspection written reports and recommends corrective action.
    • Acts as a resource for supervisors with reasonable suspicion of employees working under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
    • Provides required safety training to all site personnel.
    • Provides written reports to higher level management concerning safety concerns and/or potential problems
    • Other job related duties as assigned.

     

    Required Skills

    QUALIFICATIONS – EXPERIENCE EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS:

     

    • Bachelor’s Degree with at least five (5) additional years of responsible experience as an Environmental, Health and Safety Manager.
    • Additional work experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.
    • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance.
    • Active SECRET clearance preferred.

     

    SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

     

    • Knowledge of technical practices and programs used in the reduction or elimination of workplace hazards.
    • Extensive knowledge of federal and state safety regulations.
    • Knowledge of procedures used to anticipate, recognize, evaluate and control physical, chemical, biological and ergonomic hazards.
    • Demonstrated strong time management, planning and project management skills.
    • Proven ability to interface with all levels within an organization.
    • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
    • Strong presentation and diplomacy skills.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Essential functions require light to moderate physical exertion in lifting and carrying items weighing from 10 to 50 pounds with occasional lifting over 50 pounds with assistance.  The position requires long periods of standing, stooping, climbing and working in areas of operating equipment.  Work shall be performed throughout the buildings and some outside work may be required.
