    Who are we? 

    You will be a member of Zappos’ epic Data Science Team. The analytics intern will help define, develop and deliver on data driving research, analytics and visualizations. This work will inform strategic and tactical decision making related to Zappos’ site and an enhance user experiences.

    This is an excellent growth opportunity for an aspiring analyst to help shape the future of analytics and its relationship with Data Science at Zappos. Additionally it’s a phenomenal chance for a person without a lot of Machine Learning experience to work closely with people working on ML projects and learn from them.

    In the Data Analytics internship, you will initially be responsible for assisting more senior members of the team with different analytical/data science projects. This could include writing SQL, analyzing trends, manipulating data in an environment like R, helping derive new insightful datasets, or the obviously usual intern things like grabbing coffee (Just kidding on that last one!) ;) As you progress through the internship you will take on more independent responsibility and conduct your own projects and take on your own stakeholders.

    If you’ve ever been curious what working with billions of rows of data is like, then you’re probably looking in the right place. Learn how to manipulate and make sense of it all. In addition, you will assist different website teams in the design, implementation, and analysis of A/B and multivariate website testing.

    The CliffsNotes:

    On our team we read the whole book. Here are a few examples:

    • Advise and direct design of experiment for a variety of A/B tests that will decide what features can or cannot go live on site.
    • Be integral part of web site projects to provide insights on visitor behaviors to the Product Development and User Experience teams, develop a measurement plan, support developers throughout the implementation and QA process of analytics tracking, and evaluate post-launch metrics. Identify the most effective way to present the information to different audiences. Be the watch guard of the web site.
    • Help drive business decision-making by educating and informing Zappos teams on web metrics- terminology, concepts, trends, insights, and recommendations. Help teach us all the a-b-c’s of effective analysis.
    • Work closely with the rest of the team and provide Analytics support to Machine Learning driven projects.Build and derive new and innovative data sets and perform descriptive and linear modeling on them.
    • Support the team to create data-driven insights about visitor behavior from traffic patterns, order volume, conversion funnel, navigation behavior, path, and product selection. WOW us with your ability to look at a bunch of data and make recommendations about improving the business and customer experience (and proving the upside).
    • Employ statistical methods to derive insights from large data sets and present these to necessary parties.
    • Proactively identify opportunities and make recommendations to improve website effectiveness by drilling into data in order to further profitability and growth. Find problems we did not even know we had. Use your keen insights to help us fix them.
    • Participate in additional business intelligence activities related to data analysis as needed. Go to some meetings. Contribute. Listen. You know, the usual.
    • Stay up to date on latest industry developments. You are so passionate about what you do that you cannot even imagine NOT doing this.

  • Qualifications

    Are you a match?

    • You’ll be working with numbers and solving real-life problems, so successful candidates will usually (not always) be pursuing a degree in one of the following areas: economics, statistics, business, mathematics, computer science.
    • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service orientation.
    • Ability to convey data driven findings in layman’s terms
    • Never run out of questions.
    • Excellent problem solving skills.
    • E-Commerce Site Experience Preferred
    • Working experience writing SQL queries
    • Experience with statistical methodologies like Regression Modeling, Hypothesis Testing, Correlations etc.Experience programming in statistical languages like R and Matlab
    • Normal working business hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
    • Must be willing to relocate to Las Vegas, NV for the summer of 2018 (did we mention we have some sweet housing lined up?!).
