Contributes to store sales and profitability by effectively managing all aspects of the meat department. Assumes a position in the Meat department that provides extensive training in all aspects of the meat department, including but not limited to service counter, processed meats, sausage/grinding, sanitation, etc. Intends to become a Meat Cutter when the opportunity presents itself. Job Description ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for learning all meat production including cutting, trimming, grinding, wrapping, marinating, sausage making, etc. Increases sales by ensuring visually appealing products Reduces shrink by following production lists, recipes, following accurate trim standards, and minimizing waste Effective merchandising techniques and display standards Provide customer service to guests Assists guests with finding items they are looking for Takes orders and other special requests Packages and prices items from the service counter Answers the telephone and assists callers using proper phone etiquette Maintains adequate level of supplies in the Meat department by replenishing items as needed Contributes to overall cleanliness of the department by picking up, organizing, and cleaning work areas, shelving, and sales floor as needed Contributes to overall department goals and objectives by assisting other areas of the department as available and requested Required to maintain food safety logs Ensure all quality standards are being met, including quantity expectations at 100% by 10 am and 5 pm QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. Knowledge of the retail food business, thorough knowledge of perishables department operations, and must be able to make timely and effective decisions. Must be over the age of 18 PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT Stand in one place for a long period of time, bend, stoop, and kneel regularly Lifting up to 80 pounds on a frequent basis Frequently being near moving machinery Occasional exposure to extreme temperatures Repetitive motion of hands and wrists WORK SCHEDULE The Meat Apprentice Cutter is an hourly position that is full-time. The work schedule will generally include mornings, afternoons, weekends, and holidays, with the flexibility to work evenings or overnight as needed.
