Job Description
_The Quality Gate Inspector supports the Lean Manufacturing Built-in-Quality (BIQ) Process by inspecting, documenting and otherwise communicating quality defects missed, found and new in the manufacturing process. The person will work with frontline quality auditors, team leaders and operators to identify waste (defects) and assist the plan in production of exceptional products for the customer. _
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Inspects work-in-process and components per an inspection checklist, blueprints, and other inspection standards.
Uses a variety of measuring devices, gauges and inspection procedures.
Initiates re-work processes with production team leaders.
Communicates defects to team leaders effectively and according to process.
Writes and reports findings on BIQ (Built-In-Quality) boards.
Documents findings in system (computer) accurately and timely. Performs data entry on portable electronic tablet device.
Participates in problem solving activities including defect cause analysis and prevention (SORT).
Organizes time in order to perform the inspection of at least 3 gates coinciding with the established production move time. Inspection gate assignment will depend upon style, options, production numbers and other factors.
Complies with all safety and security procedures.
Performs other duties as required within the Quality department and external to the quality department as assigned.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Ability to visually inspect and test for quality detail.
Ability to communicate effectively with production team members in a collaborative and clear manner to achieve mutual outcomes.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings (blueprints), bill of materials and other written documentation.
Ability to accurately measure and test with applicable equipment.
Competency in math to add, subtract, multiply, divide and convert units of measure – whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
Ability to document written information accurately and legibly.
Aptitude to learn and retain new information.
Ability to follow instructions, given either orally or in writing.
Ability to use a variety of data input tools and computer programs consistent with the checklists and quality expectations.
Ability to communicate (verbally, electronically, written) effectively in English.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
GED or high school diploma.
Experience and/or training in use of computer data input technology.
Experience and/or training in large component manufacturing, installation or construction preferred.
Experience and/or training in product or process inspection/ auditing preferred.

_ PHYSICAL DEMANDS:_
Ability to stand and move about on concrete 8-12 hours a day. 4-6 days per week.
Ability to see, read, walk, bend, reach, grasp, stoop, kneel, twist, crawl, carry, climb, work overhead, use both hands, push and pull.
Ability to lift (maximum 50 pounds occasionally).
Ability to work outdoors in temperature extremes.
Ability to work in a constant state of alertness.

HOURS OF WORK
The production schedule is four (10 hour) shfts. Nightshift 7 PM-5:30 AM with some overtime expected.
BENEFITS SUMMARY
GAIN SHARING is additional compensation paid out after each quarter. The amount is based on how well the plant achieves Safety, Quality, Cost and Productivity goals. A new salary employee becomes eligible for Gain Sharing in the calendar quarter in which his or her 91st day falls.

VACATION
An employee “accrues” 2 weeks (80 hours) vacation for each calendar year worked. Partial years are prorated. He or she accrues 3 weeks (120 hours) with each year after ten years of service and 4 weeks (160 hours) after 15 years of service.
