    Job Description

    Fabrication Specialists use a variety of technical machinery and/or devices such as brake presses and shears to assist in the production of semi-trailers. Many of their job tasks may include, but are not limited to, fabricating parts to blueprint specifications, accurate dimensions and tolerances, while maintaining feed rates, cutting speeds, and operation sequences. Specific duties, as well as the machinery, materials, and equipment used may vary from department to department.  Functions may also vary within a department based on specific tasks and types of materials to be assembled as directed by the team leader or supervisor.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Operate technical machines to ensure final products are to product specifications regarding blueprints or job order.
    • Set machinery controls to synchronize machine actions for various operations in sequence while maintaining conformance to specifications and quality standards.
    • Operate various hand-held pneumatic and electric power tools and other machinery including, but not limited to, drills, drivers (screws and fasteners), riveters (pistol grip, pop riveters, mashers and squeezers), impact/torque wrenches, nut runners, saws, grinders, and tape measures.
    • Operate a variety of material handling equipment to include cranes, forklifts, hand/powered carts, trailer caddies, or by carrying material by hand as tasked. Must maintain proper certifications. 
    • Accurately confirm dimensions, tolerances, feed rates, speeds, depths of cut, and operational sequences.
    • Work with various building materials including, but not limited to, steel, aluminum, wood, fiberglass, composite materials, hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals, small fasteners and fittings, adhesives and oil-based products.
    • Maintain a clean work area, including machines, tools, equipment, and storage areas.
    • Perform other routine duties as needed, including all required inspections.
    • Observe all safety and security procedures and policies while performing required tasks.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Must be able to do heavy lifting of up to 50 pounds without mechanical assistance and, if the task requires it, multiple times daily in an 8 to 12 hour shift.
    • Must have the ability to see, hear, sit, walk, bend, reach, grasp, stoop, kneel, twist, crawl, carry, climb steps, work overhead or at heights, and push/pull up to 50 pounds.
    • Must have the ability to stand and move about on concrete 8 to 12 hours a day, if needed, based on shift requirements.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS:

    • Must be able to perform work with little to no supervision.
    • May be asked to assist in the training of new employees.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

    • GED or high school diploma is preferred.
    • Previous metal fabrication experience in a manufacturing environment is required.

    LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, ETC.:

    • If tasked with their usage, on-site certification to operate specialized machinery (e.g. cranes, forklifts, etc.) will be required and provided.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    To perform the job successfully, an individual must have the ability to perform their duties satisfactorily using each of the abilities listed below, and within any stated boundaries. 

    • Ability to accurately read a tape measure and other measuring tools.
    • Must be competent in math to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure – whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
    • Ability to read labels and instructions, as well as complete various written documentation including readings, reports, and other forms.
    • Ability to read bills of materials, shipping/receiving documents, and pick orders.
    • Ability to use a computer to read manufacturing orders as needed and input data.
    • Ability to work with hands and to work in mechanically oriented situations.
    • Aptitude to learn and retain new information.
    • Ability to follow instructions, given either verbally or in writing.
    • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
    • Ability to communicate effectively in English.
    • Ability to wear all mandated personal protective equipment (PPE) per Company requirements. This includes hard hat/bump cap, safety glasses, safety shoes/boots, hearing protection, gloves, and other job-specific PPE as required.

    Additional Information

    Great Dane Jonesboro normally operates on a 4 day schedule, Monday through Thursday, with occasional Friday or Saturday work as production needs dictate. Our 1st shift typically begins at either 6:00am/7:00am, and ends at either 3:30pm/4:30pm, based on individual department schedules. Our 2nd shift typically begins at 5:00pm and ends at 3:30am. Some departments may work beyond these hours as needed. Please indicate your availability for either shift when applying.

    A favorable background screen, drug screen, and proof of work authorization in the United States is required for employment. 

    We offer a competitive wage and benefits package that includes medical/dental/vision insurance, paid vacation/holidays, a quarterly gainsharing bonus program, 401k, and a pension program. Starting wage for the Production Fabricator position is $14.50/hour with a shift premium of $0.50/hour. Rapid promotion can typically be expected within the first year of employment.
