JOB SUMMARY: • Assists the professional nursing staff in providing care to patients during any stage of the adult life span and relieve the professional nurse of clerical duties. • Addresses patient physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs, in coordination with the medical plan of care. • Follows a daily patient, floor and desk routine assignment. • With direction of nurse, sequences work in order of importance, following established departmental and hospital policies and procedures. • Requires knowledge of patient hygiene, comfort, and safety measures to assist in the care for the ill, injured, or infirm, under the direction and supervision of the nurse. • Uses excellent interpersonal and communication skills. • Maintain confidentiality in all matters. • Complete protected health information access
JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES: • Reports any changes observed in the condition or behavior of a patient to the nurse in charge. • Assists patients in the admission, transfer, or discharge process, including preparation of unit or patient room. • Provides care including bath, hygiene, and personal care, straightens room and other general care as needed. • Encourages each patient to participate in their own care by encouraging them to strive toward independence as specified in the Nursing plan of care. • Prepares patients for meals, serves meal trays to the patients, sets trays up, feeds patients or assists those who need assistance with eating, encouraging independence • Assists patients with handling and care of clothing and other personal property. • Makes rounds to assigned patients, assessing patient needs every 2 hours and as needed. • Demonstrates competency in correct interpretation of cardiac rhythms. Communicates potentially serious dysrhythmias to assigned nurse and records rhythm changes as needed. • Properly documents using the EMR • Clerical duties: o Check paper supplies in the copy machine and printer o Place any documentation in the chart that is needed i.e. (lab and x-ray reports). o Assist in documentation for transfers, admission and discharges. • Assist in the activities for swing bed patients and documentation of patient participation.
Required Skills
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Certified Nursing Assistant for the state of Kentucky.
EDUCATION: Must have successfully completed the certification course and examination for CNA in the state of Kentucky or show proof of participation in the Kentucky State Certification Course resulting in certification within 4 months of employment. Must complete in house Monitor Technician training.
EXPERIENCE: Previous related experience preferred, but not required.
