*Propped, which launched on December 5, 2016, is solving one of the biggest issues in e-commerce today: the global community of 400 million “food evangelists” are increasingly telling their food stories online using blogs and social media sites such as Facebook and Instagram, yet these avid home cooks and food lovers can’t easily find unique kitchenware items from makers, artisans, and vintage collectors.

Today these items represent a multi-billion dollar industry, and they’re being inefficiently sold through fragmented channels and generalist marketplaces. Propped aims to change this.

We’ve built the first marketplace for the food community and makers/collectors of kitchenware to buy and sell directly from each other.

Targeted connection and access is a model that has worked in parallel industries – fashion, furniture, home design – from Poshmark, Tradesy and Vinted to Chairish and Houzz – and we’re in the process of building Propped into the next VC-backed single-audience marketplace.

Our founder is a food community member with 40K followers on Instagram. With her audience and food community/maker connections as our foundation, we were able to supercharge our pre-launch efforts, amassing over 10K Instagram followers, creating a hit blog, and signing up over 40 makers to sell through our site before they’d even seen our product live.

Next steps involve proving out the business model with strong sales growth, and continuing with our efforts to pitch investors, many of whom are already supportive of the concept.

  • About Us

Launched in December, 2016, Propped is an online peer-to-peer marketplace for the global food community; it's a place to buy and sell hard-to-find kitchen and dining goods (from local makers/artisans) as well as vintage items. It's like Ebay/Etsy but more tailored, more searchable, more beautiful, and more connected for the social and aesthetic needs of 400million+ "food evangelists" who cook and share their meals online with friends and followers.

We're looking to fill out our startup team. Our founder, Jessica Fiorillo, is an ex-Goldman Sachs financial analyst, ran her own brand strategy business for years, and is a food community influencer with 40K followers on Instagram. The goal of our internship program is to work with a set of bright new talent and find out whether there's a fit for longer-term employment post-funding (funding process to start late fall/early winter). This is a great opportunity for someone ambitious and driven to jump into a fast-paced role at the next big e-commerce platform. In the past 3 years, hundreds of $millions have been raised for similar businesses in women’s fashion resale (Poshmark, Tradesy, Vinted, ThredUP, etc) and we’re the first to go after the uber-connected food community. We look forward to meeting you!
