Job Duties: A Day in the Life Collect past due payments from customers on accounts that are delinquent 30 days or more: * Call and/or send letters to customers for past due payments of 30 days or more. Work with customers if their checks are returned or if payment is stopped. * Negotiate payment terms with customers. Negotiate settlements with customers in conjunction with manager. * Recommend file placement to outside attorneys or collection agencies if collection attempts are unsuccessful. As necessary, skip trace past due customers call relatives, update credit reports if appropriate, call other creditors, etc. * Shut off credit limits on delinquent customers accounts. Report past due account information to credit bureaus. * Identify high risk/exception accounts and immediately follow up with collection action. Work with customers to resolve billing problems and maintain collector portfolio: * Answer customer account questions by phone or in person. * Write credits for late charge fees and clear customer history for mistakes made or service problems that occurred. Act as a liaison between the customer and service departments when needed. * Correct customer addresses, phone numbers and employment information in the system. Correct errors when wrong account is billed for merchandise. Correct mis-applied payments on customer accounts. * Verify or dispute information on accounts for credit bureaus. * Handle charge-backs find out why customer is disputing the charge, collect on confirmed charge backs, or turn over to collection agency, and report service issues to appropriate department and log on Unity folder. * Utilize minimum monthly payment tool on qualified customer accounts. * Utilize service issue resolution tool on qualified customer accounts.
