Rock Gym Coach NIKE ROCK GYM - Beaverton, OR $13 - $15 an hour - Part-time The Nike Rock Gym is a unique environment serving employees at the Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon. The Rock Gym has a solid base of climbers eager to grow in their ability and who desire to be challenged in and out of the gym. Nike Rock Gym Coaches core responsibilities fall into three categories: Community development, risk management and gym operations. Coaches shape the fabric of this community and overall climbing experience through member engagement, quality route setting, instruction, and a positive attitude. Coaches are afforded the opportunity to grow in their climbing, setting and instruction while working with a team that allows them to experience the full spectrum of an indoor climbing gym; You get to do it all. Qualifications: * 2+ years climbing experience and love for the sport * 2 years experience working in an indoor climbing facility and/or as outdoor climbing guide * Proficient in teaching belay, lead climbing and technical movement classes * Experience setting and forerunning V5/5.11 * Great communication and customer services skills * Positive attitude and ability to adapt to changing priorities * Team player, reliable and committed * Youth coaching and instruction background desired * Climbing Wall Instructor certification preferred (PCIA or AMGA) Core Responsibilities: * Community Development: * Welcome, greet, and register members and guests in a friendly, expedient, and courteous manner. * Build personal connections with customers and make them feel welcome in the Nike Rock Gym. * Exhibit body language and conduct consistent with the Rock Gyms mission and purpose. * Teach core climbing courses for members. * Represent the department as a climbing and Athletic Center Professional. * Risk management: * Enforce rules and regulations while maintaining the highest level of user safety. * Perform belay checks and monitor the area for safety. * Fix loose or broken holds as quickly as conditions allow. * Understand and enforce proper use of equipment. * Gym operations * Balance competing priorities in the Rock Gym with front line customer being the top priority. * Perform route setting and hold washing duties on a weekly basis. Set 2-4 top rope and/or 4-8 boulder routes per week. Give and receive route setting feedback to achieve a high quality of route setting. * Proactively maintain a clean and functional workplace while participating in daily custodial tasks. * Be a team player; recognize the skills of other staff members and be willing to help out as needed. Attend and participate in staff meetings as scheduled. Hours: * Average of 30 hours per week. * Availability to work mornings, evenings, and weekend. * Regular weekly schedule plus the ability to pick up sub shifts within the Sport Department Job Type: Part-time Salary: $13.00 to $15.00 /hour Experience: * climbing: 2 years
