    Job description

    We are looking for a Group Environmental Specialist who will be responsible for providing key support for the ongoing implementation of the Spirax-Sarco Engineering plc’s corporate sustainability strategy; including providing specific technical assistance in water and waste reduction programs, associated data management, improving the environmental operating footprint of our businesses by improving or eliminating use of certain chemicals, and ensuring environmental compliance and associated management systems are in place to support business continuity.

    This is a new Spirax-Sarco Engineering Group role that will report to the Head of Sustainability for the Electric Thermal Solutions Business (also technical lead of Strategic Initiative 3: Environmental Improvements in our Own Operations, within the One Planet Strategy). The Group Environmental Specialist will also work periodically with the Managing Director of the Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Solution Business (Executive Sponsor of Strategic Initiative 3) to review progress of key projects; and Strategic Initiative 3 Committee Members, to partner with or lead sub-teams in support of key projects, and associated reporting metrics and KPIs.

    This new role will also have a dotted line reporting line to the Group Head of Sustainability.

    Required Skills

    Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

    • Providing vital capacity to the Head of Sustainability, ETS in the implementation of SI3, e.g., by leading one or more global sub-project within SI3.

    • Support SI3 Lead by reviewing data and progress against KPIs.

    • Helping to develop training and resources to support the implementation of water/waste reduction action plans and environmental risk management.

    • Supporting environmental compliance monitoring and progress against certifications, i.e., ISO 14001 etc.

    • Identifying and sharing latest trends and best practices in environmental compliance and management by building nowcast or forecast models to visualize, measure and predict progress.

    • Liaising with the Group Sustainability Data Manager to complete routine reviews of data and metrics to monitor reporting progress and ensure data quality and integrity.

    • Liaising and collaborating regularly with the Group Sustainability Data Manager and other internal environmental and sustainability professionals to provide training internally.

    Required Experience

    Essential:

    The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of sustainability programs, with a primary focus in water and waste management, including reduction efforts, associated industrial environmental compliance requirements, best practices and understanding of environmental management system such as ISO14001, with a track record of delivering quantifiable progress against environmental performance targets.

    Other skills, experience or attributes include:

    • 3- 5 years' experience in Environmental Management and/or Sustainability
    • A general understanding of common industrial process as it relates to water consumption, waste generation and overall management requirements for both, along with associated reporting.
    • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including use of Microsoft Suite products: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • A good understanding and fast independent learner of data management systems, including how to navigate systems and produce reports.
    • Good inter-personal skills, with an ability to develop relationships at all levels of the organisation, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
    • Excellent organisational skills with an ability to meet deadlines, while working in a flexible and collaborative way.
    • 15% travel involved.
