POSITION SUMMARY: The Child Watch Attendants primary function is to supervise both large and small groups of children ages 6 months to 11 years old in short-term childcare while parents or guardians are utilizing The Salvation Army Kroc Center. The Child Watch Attendant will be responsible for receiving payment of child watch services by cash, check, credit card or debit card through a Point of Sales (POS) system, providing information and answering questions. The Child Watch Attendant will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the manner in which he or she represents The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the community. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 1. High School Diploma or GED equivalency. 2. Must be at least 18 years of age. 3. Must have at least one year of successful experience working with children. 4. Must be computer literate with proficient typing skills and the ability to use new software programs with basic training. 5. Must have excellent telephone skills with the ability to maintain a non-judgmental attitude in working with guests, members and staff. 6. TB clearance required. Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be accepted. PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 1. Experience with a Point of Sales (POS) system preferred. 2. Preferred class-work in childhood development or related field. 3. CPR/First Aid/AED certification at time of hire or ability to be certified within 30 days after hire date. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Provide a safe, supervised and developmentally appropriate play environment for the children of members and guests of the Kroc Center Hawaii. 2. Meet and greet all members, guests, staff and volunteers with a smile and hello. Make eye contact, use members, guests or childs name whenever possible and ensure questions about programs and procedures are answered. 3. Handle and resolve member and guest complaints by obtaining and evaluating all relevant data. Follow up with members and guests to ensure high-level satisfaction. Communicate guest complaints to the Child Watch Lead and/or Member Services Manager if further action is needed. 4. Observe, organize and participate in children's play activities such as craft activities, creative play, board games, puzzles, etc. 5. Use positive behavioral methods to encourage independence and responsibility. Use appropriate positive discipline consistently and coach others to do the same. 6. Help children overcome issues of separation from their parents or guardians. 7. Support childrens emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts. Be sensitive to childrens individual needs. Relate joyfully and sensitively to children of all ages and abilities. 8. Facilitate check in and check out procedures according to protocol, ensure proper identification of adult designated to pick up the child and maintain accurate rosters/logs. 9. Maintain confidentiality of member and guest personal information. 10. Receive payment by cash, check, credit card or debit card for Child Watch services. Compute and record totals of transactions; issue receipts, credits or change due to guests or members utilizing the Point of Sale (POS) kiosk system. 11. Responsible for all opening and closing duties and securing the POS area at the end of shift. 12. Ensure equipment and supplies are sanitized and in good condition, removing any items that become broken or unsafe. Communicate with the Child Watch Lead or Member Services Coordinator to address maintenance related issues. 13. Responsible for maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the Child Watch facility, POS kiosks and desk area. 14. Provide back-up support for Front Desk. 15. Report any suspected abuse or lack of adherence to Child Watch policy to the Member Services Manager. 16. Follow and ensure adherence to the Salvation Army Policies and Procedures. 17. Maintain the Code of Ethics policy, which has been established for the Kroc Center Hawaii. 18. Attend staff meetings and other administrative meetings. 19. Maintain regular and punctual work attendance. Available to work a flexible schedule that includes working on weekends, holidays, and evenings. 20. Perform other duties as assigned. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The Child Watch Attendant may be lifting and carrying children and equipment, and may spend time sitting on the floor or child sized furniture. The Child Watch Attendant will be expected to help clean and maintain equipment and facility, and may come in contact with children who are ill and/or contagious, and must take precautions to ensure the health and safety of all children, parents, guardians, staff and themselves. The Child Watch Attendant will be working in a busy and occasionally noisy environment. There may be a number of activities and situations happening at once, and the Child Watch Lead will have to supervise all children at all times. The Child Watch Attendant may experience smells associated with toileting and children who are ill. There may be times that the environment is noisy and busy. Must be in excellent physical and mental health; capable of meeting the demands of a short-term child care facility. The position requires sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; driving a vehicle; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 25-50 pounds and occasionally more than 50 pounds. In this position you must be physically able to give emergency care, if the situation arises. This employee may also be required to work weekends, holidays, and evenings. COMMUNICATION DEMANDS: The position requires talking to co-workers and members/guests; requires written communication to and from co-workers and members/guests; talking on the telephone; requires responding to written or verbal requests of co-workers and members/guests; requires training/giving verbal and written instructions; requires receiving verbal and written instructions; requires writing/composing written language; requires reading; requires visiting/working at other worksites; requires communication via the latest technologies. EQUIPMENT NEEDS: Activity mats & tables, classroom chairs, blocks, carts, toys, arts & crafts accessories, books, classroom lockers/storage units, diaper changing tables, easels, etc. Equipment used includes general office equipment such as computers, point of sale kiosks, photocopiers, scanners, printers, fax machines, telephone, microphones, audio-visual equipment, 10-key calculator and automobile. DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT: Most work will be indoors at the new Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center (Kroc Center Hawaii) Child Watch. There will also be times where this employee will be outdoors at the Kroc Center Hawaii. Attendance at trainings and conferences may be required. Uniforms are required; such as wearing Kroc Center Hawaii apparel. CERTIFICATES & LICENSES: The candidate chosen for this position must have a valid drivers license and insured transportation. On an annual basis, employees are required to participate in The Salvation Armys Fleet Safety Program. Candidate must hold CPR/First Aid/AED certification at time of hire or ability to be certified within a reasonable amount of time after hire date.
