POSITION TITLE: Ministry Intern LOCATION/DEPT: Oakbrook Terrace Corps REPORTS TO: Corps Officer FLSA CATEGORY: Exempt STATUS TYPE: Regular Full-Time OUTCOMES The Ministry Intern is an educational position which exists to assist individuals in preparation for full time ministry through Officership. These individuals will work with the Corps Officer/Administrator to learn and experience involvement with and leadership of the daily and weekly responsibilities and programming of the Corps/institution. They will assist with initiating and maintaining an outreach and discipleship program directed to the surrounding community in a culturally sensitive and language friendly response and in the name of Christ through worship, evangelism, fellowship, discipleship, and ministry. Responsibilities ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESLeadership is provided in worship and Christian education programs. This would include leading meetings, worship arts, music programs, preaching, teaching, and leadership training that is specific to the theology and teaching of The Salvation Army.This would include leadership in Christian Education Programs for adults and children.A resource exists for:The promotion of culturally and language relevant opportunities for corporate worship and public proclamation of the Gospel message.The follow up of contacts with regular and seasonal social service clients, Sunday visitors, families, friends, co-workers and neighbors of all ministry participants.Pastoral and evangelistic visitation and assist in the establishment of Bible studies, discipleship, and fellowship cell groups in homes within the local community.The promotion, encouragement and assimilation of individuals into existing Corps programs and activities. Coordinating and implementing Salvation Army Soldier/member recruitment and training curriculum.The training and cross/training of local leadership. Community center programming and social services, including upkeep and facility preparation.Acts as a representative of The Salvation Army and its mission is at community events including service clubs, school functions, and ministerial associations.Advocacy and referral for families and individuals within the county is provided.Community events that are purposeful, fun, family friendly and sensitive to culture and practice are organized and implemented including seasonal programs.A working knowledge of the surrounding Community is developed, taking responsibility to keep up to date and request assistance for further development needs.Administrative responsibilities are fulfilled concerning Corps financial planning including as needed in all aspects including petty cash, completing delegated reports and projects as scheduled, tracking and recording attendance of participants and all information regarding membership development.In conjunction with the sites staff, a coordinated and integrated strategy is developed, implemented and evaluated on an on-going basis for the Metropolitan Division. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE Minimum of a High School Degree. Advanced training or certification in Theology and Cross Cultural Church Ministry would be helpful.A minimum of 1 to 3 years of leadership experience.Must have a valid drivers license. An extensive knowledge of the cutting edge issues involved in effective cross-cultural ministry. A growing knowledge of the Armys history, mission, theology and structure; as well as its services, policies and procedures.Effective written and oral communication skills, especially in public presentations.MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTThis position has an essential role in fulfilling the full mission of the Salvation Army. Because of the integral nature of this responsibility, active membership in a Salvation Army Corps is required, of good character and maturity, and involvement in a personal development program with the intent of entering the training college. With this in mind, weekly meetings are required with the supervisor, and quarterly updates are to be submitted to the DYCS by the Administrator. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT This position is required to do moderate physical work and must be able to lift 50 pounds. In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use standard office equipment and PC. The work environment for this position includes an office and community center environment with at times high noise level.
