    Job Description Director of Digital Experience Design (UX/UI)

    OVERVIEW

    Are you interested in changing the Automotive industry forever? Do you have a passion for customer experience? Do you have a natural curiosity to learn and understand why consumers behave the way they do? If so, the Director of Digital Experience Design (UX/UI) position at Sonic Automotive would be a good fit for you.

    At Sonic Automotive, we want to change the automotive industry by starting with the car buying process that is primarily in-person and moving it to a truly omnichannel experience. This role would join the newly formed e-commerce team and focus on understanding our customer and their needs in order to create a best-in-class experience that enables a customer to do whatever he or she chooses along the path to purchase a vehicle.

    The Director of Digital Experience Design (UX/UI) will report directly to the Vice President of E-commerce and work closely with e-commerce, development, marketing, customer service, store operations, and executive teams.

    SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

    · Oversee UX, information architecture, and visual design for all mobile and web products

    · Identify customer needs and motivations through research and testing, then translate findings into compelling experiences that both meet customer needs and optimize business goals

    · Own the end-to-end UX design process and deliverables including the creation of user flows, wireframes, prototypes and development-ready assets

    · Build and manage a team of high functioning designers that embraces creativity, rigor and data

    · Be the user advocate by driving and evangelizing the use of behavioral, voice of customer feedback and usability testing

    · Collaborate with product management to drive product strategy and aid in the development of product roadmaps

    · Conduct competitive and industry research to identify best practices and emerging trends

    · Establish, maintain, and promote design guidelines and interaction strategy

    · Inform the company’s innovation agenda and content strategy

    KEY SKILLS

    · Curious, detail-oriented critical thinker with ability to solve complex user goals in new and creative ways

    · Collaborative, communication, and presentation skills

    · Self-starter with ability to jump into a start-up type environment

    · Ability to stay organized with file structures and project timelines

    · Understanding of general web coding capabilities and constraints

    · Ability to incorporate research strategy and analytics into design decisions

    · Mastery of UX interaction and design principles and deliverables including rapid prototyping, concept diagrams, user scenarios, wireframes, flows, experience maps, design patterns and annotated comps

    · Solid understanding of design fundamentals across mobile and web platforms, including typography, iconography and color

    · Understanding of ADA compliance and meeting needs of users with impairments

    BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE

    · 8+ years’ experience in digital, information architecture or user experience for a consumer brand and 4+ years’ experience leading design and implementation of complex digital experiences

    · Bachelor’s degree or higher in design, media, communication, psychology, or another relevant field

    · Proven success designing and optimizing web and mobile B2C experiences

    · Experience working within an Agile environment

    · Experience with design tools such as Sketch, Figma, Invision, Photoshop, and/or Illustrator

    · Proven success managing and coaching talented UX teams
