Supervise campers in activities and their living units in a manner consistent with and supportive of the goals of the Windridge experience - a camp where campers make a commitment to hard work, good sportsmanship, and wholesome fun and laughter amidst a warm and friendly environment in a caring atmosphere.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Guide campers in the assigned living unit in participating in all aspects of camp activities in a non-threatening atmosphere that allows for success and the ability to learn from failure.
- Teach or lead a variety of classes to campers.
- Assist each camper in meeting the goals and objectives established by the camp as outlined in the camp’s philosophy.
- Supervise all assigned aspects of the campers’ day including morning wake-up, cabin clean-up, meal times, rest hour, bedtime and after-hours duty.
- Leads by example in observing camp rules and regulations and carries out an established role in enforcing camp rules and safety regulations.
- Instruct campers in emergency procedures such as fire drills, evacuating the cabin, etc.
- Help campers plan their day, free activities, camp-wide programs and special events.
- Prepare for and actively participate in staff training, meetings, and supervisory conferences.
- Maintain good public relations with campers’ parents.
- Submit all required reports on time.
- Willing to use appropriate discipline techniques as instructed during staff training and on-going by supervisory staff.
- Respect and cooperate with fellow staff and administrators.
- Provide a fun environment for campers within the confines of safety and learning.
- These are not the only duties to be performed, some duties may be reassigned and other duties may be assigned as required.
- Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels), and provide necessary instruction to campers.
- Abilities to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.
- Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
