To supervise campers in activities and their living units in a manner consistent with and supportive of the goals of the Windridge experience - a camp where campers make a commitment to hard work, good sportsmanship, and wholesome fun and laughter amidst a warm and friendly environment in a caring atmosphere.
Specific responsibilities:
Guide campers in assigned living unit in participating in all aspects of camp activities in a non-threatening atmosphere that allows for success and the ability to learn from failure.
Teach or lead riding classes to campers and supervise camper matches.
Assist each camper in meeting the goals and objectives established by the camp as outlined in the camp’s philosophy.
Supervise all assigned aspects of the campers’ day including morning wake-up, cabin clean-up, meal times, rest hour, bedtime and after-hours duty.
Leads by example in observing camp rules and regulations and carries out established role in enforcing camp rules and safety regulations.
Instruct campers in emergency procedures such as fire drills, evacuating the cabin, etc.
Help campers plan their participation in riding classes, free activities, camp-wide programs and special events.
Prepare for and actively participate in staff training, meetings, and supervisory conferences.
Maintain good public relations with campers’ parents.
Submit all required reports on time.
Willing to use appropriate discipline techniques as instructed during staff training and on-going by supervisory staff.
Respect and cooperate with fellow staff and administrators.
Provide a fun environment for campers within the confines of safety and learning.
These are not the only duties to be performed, some duties may be reassigned and other duties may be assigned as required.
Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels), and provide necessary instruction to campers.
Abilities to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.
Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
Desire and ability to work with children outdoors
Ability to relate one’s peer group
Ability to accept supervision and guidance
Ability to supervise and/or teach riding classes
Training and experience in riding
Good character, integrity and adaptability
Self-motivated, leadership ability, responsibilities
Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control
High school graduate or equivalent, or at least 18 years of age
Experience with teaching riding classes
Windridge Tennis and Sports Camps stand unique among children's summer camps in that we incorporate sports-specialty camps within the traditional framework of a rural New England camp setting.
