    WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT IN THIS ROLE

    As a Spectrum Intern, you'll be essential to two teams - your respective department and your Intern peer group. Department and team-focused projects account for about 80% of your schedule. You'll spend the other 20% on professional development sessions and networking activities, including the Kickoff Conference on June 2, webinars, community service, cross-functional project, and final presentations.

    Internship responsibilities may include

    This position will be working with Spectrum's IT Security Incident Response team. They will have the opportunity to survey security info and produce a daily bulletin of the items that are most important for Spectrum and that they feel will be most helpful to the team. They will shadow Tier II and Tier III in responding to and remediating security alerts on workstations and servers. They will create a quiz for the team on the Incident Handling Guide. They will sit on the phone bridge when we have a live incident that we are fighting as a team. They will shadow our Tier IV on conducting computer forensics. They will participate in the morning sync up everyday in which we review current issues and look for opportunities to collaborate on investigations. They will research relevant threat actors and malware and conduct threat hunting. They will present their research to the team and through leadership up to the VP level.

    Required qualifications

    • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited College or University completing a Bachelor's Degree or Advanced Degree
    • Must have at least a 3.0 GPA or greater in current program
    • Ability to travel locally to Spectrum Intern development events and activities throughout the program
    • Authorization to work in the U.S. without restrictions or need for future sponsorship

    Preferred qualifications

    • Knowledge of basic security principles (Confidentiality, Availability, Authentication, Integrity, Access control, Privacy, Non-repudiation
    • Knowledge of vulnerability and vulnerability management (physical security, network protocol vulnerabilities, software vulnerabilities, configuration vulnerabilities)
    • Knowledge of network protocols (OSI model, IP/TCP/UDP/ICMP/ARP etc, TFTP/FTP/HTTP/SNMP/SMTP/SSH/SMB/DHCP/DNS etc)
    • Knowledge of Operating Systems, Windows/Mac/Linux (security configuration options, logging and audit abilities, permissions)
    • Knowledge of Malicious code (methods of delivery, propagation, persistence, communication, analysis methods)
    • Programming/Scripting (Powershell, Python, Shell/Bash)
    • Forensics (memory analysis, filesystem forensics, operating system artifacts, application artifacts)
