    THE SPECTRUM INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE

You have clear aspirations and are seeking a summer internship program that will help you meet them. Find it at Spectrum, named one of the Top 100 Internship Programs in the United States by WayUp.

    Background

    • In March of 2021, Charter is announcing its first climate goal publicly via the company's Environment, Social & Governance report, which will also include certain greenhouse gas emissions from our baseline 2019 inventory. The 2021 EDF Climate Corps Fellow will be part of the Spectrum Summer Intern Program and gain well-rounded experience of corporate sustainability as this climate initiative is being built with senior executive support already secured.

    • The Fellow will be responsible for developing business cases for a pipeline of carbon reduction projects, particularly ensuring at least one signature initiative with significant carbon reduction and cost savings for each area of our greenhouse gas emissions inventory. The Fellow will have flexibility to recommend energy efficiency, other carbon reduction measures or renewable energy to fit these goals.

    • The EDF Climate Corps Fellow will be reporting within the Corporate Services team that oversees Real Estate / Facilities, Property Administration, Corporate Fleet & Travel, and Aviation (physically based in Greenwood Village CO). The Fellow will partner with the internal stakeholders on Charter's Climate Committee who are the functional leaders for each area of our greenhouse gas emissions by Scope. The Climate Committee is a cross-functional team from five different business units responsible for data inputs and narrative for our greenhouse gas emissions reporting (both company ESG report as well as via CDP / other ratings agencies). The Climate Committee over the summer will be turning from GHG measurement and reporting towards GHG planning and management.

    • The Fellow will work directly with a former EDF Climate Corps Fellow and have significant support to help navigate within Charter's operations to the stakeholders currently believed to have the greatest opportunity for carbon reductions based upon Charter's 2019 baseline and 2020 GHG inventory.

Our internships are designed to provide:

    • Opportunities to gain new skills and elevate the ones you already have, all in a robust and forward-thinking business setting.

    • First-rate, hands-on experience in the telecommunications industry.

    • Opportunities to connect you with people who can give you a better understanding of the industry and help you accomplish real goals you can add to your résumé, this includes assigning you a formal mentor and interactions with senior executives.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT IN THIS ROLE

As a Spectrum Intern, you'll be essential to two teams - your respective department and your Intern peer group. Department and team-focused projects account for about 80% of your schedule. You'll spend the other 20% on professional development sessions and networking activities, including the Kickoff Conference on June 1, webinars, community service, cross-functional project, and final presentations.

    Internship responsibilities may include:

    Key Areas of GHG Inventory

Charter has the following areas of GHG inventory in our 2019 baseline and 2020 inventory and will be conducting a review for potential additional areas of Scope 3 emissions prior to the Fellow joining this summer:

    • Scope 1

      • Fleet - with over 30,000 vehicles in operation to serve our customers and maintain our network, opportunities for increased efficiency in fleet has significant scale.

      • Natural Gas - Charter has yet to analyze the natural gas distribution within its portfolio of utilities / GHG accounting

      • Fire Suppression - Charter includes fugitive emissions from fire suppression systems in our built environment and has yet to develop the business case for switching to lower global warming potential / eco-friendly options

    • Scope 2

      • Electricity - given the nature of Charter's operations there are tens of thousands of utility connections, including everything from built / office environments of our corporate campuses, call centers to warehouses to data centers, to telecommunications-specific installations such as head ends and hubs.
    • Scope 3

      • Customer Premise Equipment - Charter participates in voluntary reporting for our residential set-top boxes and small network equipment, committing to achieving certain energy efficiency levels for each type of unit. Scope 3 includes energy use as well as material energy for these CPE, and includes emerging efforts to "design for reuse" in Spectrum-designed routers. Charter also accounts for our Mobile line of business, which launched in mid 2018.

      • Corporate Travel - Charter accounts for emissions of our air travel for company trips.
