What you can expect in this role
As a Spectrum Intern, you’ll be essential to two teams — your respective department and your Intern peer group. Department and team-focused projects account for about 80% of your schedule. You’ll spend the other 20% on professional development sessions and networking activities, including the Kickoff Conference on May 29, webinars, community service, cross-functional project, and final presentations.
Internship responsibilities may include:
- Performs installations and configurations of grid infrastructure, databases, clients etc.
- Creates/maintains backup and recovery strategies on Database Management Systems
- Maintains standards and design of physical data storage, maintenance, access and security administration
- Supports multiple services and multiple databases of medium complexity with multiple concurrent users, ensuring control, integrity and accessibility of data
- Installs, configures and maintains High Availability server solutions
- Troubleshoots alerts (alert log, Jobs, Disk Group, Tablespace etc.) and performance issues. Performs database performance tuning tasks
- Utilizes monitoring and diagnostics tools to identify/resolve performance issues
Here’s what it takes to get started
Required qualifications
- Must be enrolled in an accredited College or University graduating with a bachelor’s degree between December 2024 - May 2025
- Must have at least a 3.0 GPA or greater in current program
- Ability to travel locally to Spectrum Intern development events and activities throughout the program
- Authorization to work in the U.S. without restrictions or need for Charter Sponsorship

- Proficient in Software including Adobe, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word
- Knowledge of Database Architecture and its implementation
- Knowledge of PL/SQL programming language
- Knowledge of Instance, database and query tuning to improve the performance of the database/application
- Understanding of Capacity Planning
- Understanding of Disaster Recovery (DR) methodologies
- Understanding of SAN technologies
- Knowledge of Windows/Linux/Solaris operating systems and shell scripting
- Understanding of Change Management procedures
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing in a clear and straightforward manner Ability to communicate with all levels of management and company personnel
- Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks
- Ability to make decisions and solve problems while working under pressure
- Ability to prioritize and organize effectively
Ability to show judgment and initiative and to accomplish job duties
- Ability to use personal computer and software applications (i.e. word processing, spreadsheet, etc.)
