    THE PROGRAM

    The 2023 Network Operations Intern Program is open for dedicated and hardworking students. The goal of the Network Operations Intern Program is to provide current students with exposure to a real-life network operation setting, while giving them the opportunity to learn about our industry. Spectrum provides an atmosphere that is intended to broaden an entry level candidate’s professional understanding while promoting self-confidence, accomplishment, and career development.

    The program is 10 weeks in length and will run from: JUNE 5TH, 2023, THROUGH AUGUST 11TH, 2023.

    INSIDE PLANT

    Inside Plant (ISP) operates in the space where cutting-edge technology meets impeccable customer support. As liaison between hardware and network, ISP working groups handles the concrete and the abstract, maintaining connecting at headends, hubs, and networking facilities to enable smooth, continuous data flow. As troubleshooting specialist, ISP implements support solutions for internal and external customers with diplomacy and expertise.

    JOB SCOPE

    Assist Inside Plant personnel with basic troubleshooting, support and maintenance of network elements and connections required to support Charter's revenue generating networks. Work to provide enterprise-wide tiered support on converged distribution and access network elements and connections as needed.

    Under supervision, responsible for the digital transport programming up to the outside plant (point of demarcation from ISP facilities) utilizing, maintaining and installing a variety of optical and electrical interfaces including but not limited to coaxial cable, fiber optic transmission, CAT 6 to name a few typical technologies. This includes the installation, operation and break-fix remediation, with root cause analysis of all equipment associated with the Headend (HE), Hubs. On-call rotation required.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.

    • All work during the internship will be under supervision of an ISP team member.

    • Assist with monitor services for quality delivery assurance.

    • Under supervision operate a spectrum analyzer to verify optimum levels and performance leaving ones ISP Facility.

    • Perform all required Performance Testing as needed.

    • Follow “Did I?” checklist and perform daily checks to ensure ISP Equipment functionality.

    • Assist with ensuring the facility is a clean, safe work environment.

    • Under supervision maintain awareness of network activities affecting local elements.

    • Assist with Troubleshoot video

    • Under supervision perform network problem resolution.

    • Troubleshoot communication architectures, topologies, hardware, software, transmission and signaling links and protocols. Basic set up and operation of legacy headend equipment including but not limited to RF distribution, signal processors, modulators, demodulators, IRD's and IRT's.

    • Install Ethernet cabling - follow proper engineering practices for the preparation, routing and termination of CAT 5 and/or CAT 6 cabling.

    • Under supervision install coaxial cabling - follow proper engineering practices for the preparation, routing and termination of coax and mini-coax applications.

    • Under supervision install fiber cabling - follow proper engineering practices for the preparation, routing and termination of various types of fiber connectors in both multi-mode and single mode applications.

    • Under supervision install, test and maintain optical passive devices including patch panels, optical couplers, mux/demux and filters utilizing appropriate optical connector handling and cleaning procedures.

    • Under supervision Install, maintain, and perform testing and required documentation of emergency alert systems.

    • Perform and properly document with guidance all required Charter Engineering and FCC mandated testing.

    • Adhere to industry specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable.

    • Maintain required logs, records and other documentation in compliance with company and FCC (Federal Communications Commission) technical requirements.

    • Under supervision perform HE and facility Technical Quality Assurance (TQA) inspections; ensure all cabling, equipment installation, power and cooling is in compliance with corporate TQA standards.

    • Assist with the development and Implementation of approved methods of procedure.

    • Under supervision maintain and support protocol compatibility standards, develops and implements network enhancements.

    • Under supervision work on projects / systems / issues of basic to moderate complexity surrounding network planning, configuration and optimization.

    • Partner on one or more projects as a project team member.

    • Under supervision utilize ISP Workforce management tools

    • Under supervision perform analog and digital RF channel level measurement and quality testing.

    • Assist with period test equipment and quality of signal throughout the network.

    • Assist with daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly testing and logging as outlined by ISP Playbook.

    • Understand practice know, understand and follow company policies.

    • Perform other duties as requested by supervisor.

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

    • Currently enrolled and completing an Associate / Bachelor Degree or Technical vocational program at an accredited University

    • Must have at least a 3.0 GPA or greater in current program

    • Ability to read, write and speak the English language to communicate with employees, customers, suppliers, in person, on the phone, and by written communications in a clear, straightforward, and professional manner

    • Ability to use personal computer, software applications, handheld communication devices and applications

    • Ability to use the following hand tools: electric drills, hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers

    • Ability to safely use weight-bearing equipment (such as ladders) within the maximum limitations of that equipment)

    • Ability to work while standing 50 - 70% of the time
