    As a UX Design Intern with the AT&T Entertainment Group Technology & Video Operations team, you’ll work with cutting edge technology to bring the latest content and entertainment to customers in their homes or on the go.     As a UX Design Intern, you will spend 12 weeks in Los Angeles, CA as part of the Experience Design team responsible for the current and next generation design of the multi-screen DIRECTV entertainment experience. You’ll work closely with UX Designers, User Researchers, UI Designers and Engineers. And, you’ll be assigned a design problem with an end goal to define, design and implement features for DIRECTV’s entertainment experience.

    The Entertainment Group Technology Program goes above and beyond your daily project work; networking events with peers, breakfast with leaders, code camp, case study work, resume reviews, etc. Don’t forget the fun stuff – social events, volunteer days, and even go behind the scenes by touring our broadcast centers and our live Rich Eisen Studio. Being involved with this program not only prepares you to apply for a position with us once you graduate but also prepares you for the professional world regardless of where you work.

    Our goal is to help you gain valuable real-world experience, and give you the ability to create portfolio-worthy work that could possibly be used by millions of customers!

    Job Duties & Requirements

    • User Experience: Partner with your assigned UX Design mentors to develop a high-quality user-centered solution for DIRECTV set-top-boxes and/or mobile devices. Brainstorm and collaborate with other UX designers, graphics specialists and engineers.
    • Documentation: Produce a variety of typical UX deliverables such as Competitive Audits, Heuristic Evaluations, User Journeys, Sitemaps, User Flows and Wireframes.
    • Deliverable & Deadline Management: With the help of your mentors, gain insights into how to give estimates and get experience in managing deadlines.
    • Research Participation: AT&T’s Entertainment Group has an in-house research group so user research is always being conducted. You may not necessarily be able to do research for your particular assignment, but you will get experience in identifying areas for research and will definitely get to observe research for other initiatives.
    • Work hours and location: Hours are typically 9 am to 6 pm in El Segundo, CA offices.

    Required Characteristics & Abilities

    • Creative problem solving: Assess and determine product goals, understand technical or business limitations, explore and ideate multiple design solutions, partner with mentors to assess feasibility, articulate pros/cons and make recommendations.
    • Initiative: Lead/drive your project, meet deadlines and manage time. Be a self-starter but also know when to reach out for help.
    • Agility: Excels working in a fast-paced and fluid environment.
    • Passion for Design: You find yourself debating about improving elevator button interactions or improving wayfinding at your local mall.

    Knowledge & Skills

    • Pursuing a degree in information architecture, interaction design, UX or a related field
    • Nice to have: online portfolio showcasing recent school projects, freelance work or even just things you have worked on in your spare time for fun
    • Nice to have: software proficiency in one or more of the following; Adobe InDesign, Balsamiq, Moqups, wireframe.cc, sketch, Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Acrobat, Omnigraffle, Axure, Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint or Visio
