    Job Description

    Position Overview The Equipment Engineer will support the R&D Pilot Production and Testing facilities in Waltham, MA.  The Equipment Engineer will be responsible for maintaining and servicing cell assembly as well as leading projects to install, start-up, maintain and improve new equipment lines as required by the company’s Cell Development needs.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Daily Equipment Engineering support for R&D operation
    • Change-over of equipment tooling to support fabrication of multiple products
    • Work with Process Engineers to design, fabricate and test upgrades to existing equipment
    • Research, commission, and validate new equipment or modify existing equipment to prototype new battery cell formats, coordinating with multiple departments and vendors as necessary
    • Utilize root cause analysis tools to identify and solve production issues
    • Execute projects to improve efficiency, quality and safety of various equipment
    • Keep equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services; following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures; requesting special service

    Specific Skills/Abilities

    • Internally driven to solve problems and take on new challenges
    • Passion for being hands-on with mechanical and/or electrical projects
    • Proficiency in the use of various hand tools and precision measurement devices
    • Strong analytical skills–interpret and make data driven decisions
    • Strong organizational and leadership skills – capable of leading technical projects
    • Solid Modeling with 3D CAD software (Pro-Engineer/Creo preferred)
    • Able to create and interpret mechanical drawings
    • Basic understanding/exposure to the following:
    • Identification and specification of metals and plastic
    • Metal/Plastic fabrication – machining, joining, finishing, etc.
    • Electrical – ability to interpret and diagnose basic electrical schematics and circuits (high and low voltage/power and control circuits)
    • Fluid power – machine level hydraulic/compressed air systems

    Education/Experience

    • BS in Mechanical 1-3 years of experience
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) is required
    • Automation exposure a plus: PLC, Sensors, Stepper/Servo systems, HMI, ladder diagrams, safety circuits, etc.
    • Exposure/familiarity to NFPA 79 and/or UL Industrial control panel labeling requirements a plus
    • Exposure to data acquisition equipment is preferred
    • Experience with LabView or similar data acquisition software a plus

     

    Physical Demands and Work Environment

    • Capable of climbing stairs, lifting 20 kg or less
    • Able to work at nominal heights
    • Able to perform equipment maintenance tasks that may require bending, stooping, lying down or working from elevated platforms. Requires full use and range of motion of arms, hands and fingers to reach, grasp, hold, push or pull, twist, and work with tools
    • Must use appropriate PPE as required
