    Gas Dispatcher SUMMARY: Remotely monitor and control the

    safety-related operation of CenterPoint Energys (CNP) distribution system via SCADA systems from a CNP control center. To maintain daily gas control activities, including distribution system monitoring, directing system operations, forecasting customer demand, utilizing gas purchases, and curtailment operations, to balance customer demand with gas supply options to achieve safe reliable gas distribution system. ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: * Monitors SCADA system and react appropriately to SCADA alarms by directing equipment changes/settings either remotely or through field personnel. * Analyzes all gas usage and distribution system pressures from the SCADA network, provides accurate estimates of data and takes appropriate action. * Maintains and communicates the record of department actions, operational problems, and deviations from daily operating plans to ensure accurate documentation is available on file. * Forecasts the total customer demand position daily and recommends changes to supply or initiates curtailment strategies to meet and balance that demand. * Communicates current and future conditions to all affected on-call personnel. * Works with all departments (Engineering, System Operations, District personnel, Dispatch, Customer Service, others) during critical gas usage periods to ensure reliable gas delivery to our customers * Assists in the duties performed by the Gas Acquisitions and Scheduling department in circumstances that present the need for additional transportation services. * Continuously interacts with transportation specialists and maintains a working knowledge of all pipeline nomination and confirmation systems to facilitate meeting customer demand and to assure system integrity. * Coordinates and communicates with gas customers, pipeline personnel and CenterPoint Energy Gas Operations personnel in order to facilitate customer demand and nominate various pipeline services that reduce gas costs. * Supports, maintains, and develops computer programs and procedures in the areas of dispatching that sustain and strengthen department and company operations. * Performs basic trouble shooting of SCADA problems. * Responds to Large Volume customers and Engineering after hours urgent issues. **EDUCATION: ** Requires an associate degree from an accredited college or university. *In lieu of education, may substitute two years of experience for every one year of education **EXPERIENCE: ** Requires a minimum of three years experience in gas measurement principles, distribution system operations, or peak shaving operations. ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS, ABILITIES & PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS (KSLAPs): * Ability to apply forecasting methods and interpret supply and demand options accurately. * Ability to coordinate dispatching, measurement, transportation and exchange applications. * Ability to make decisions under pressure, based on diverse operating conditions. * Ability to demonstrate and apply knowledge of dispatch, pipelines, distribution operations, and pipeline tariffs. * Ability to maintain effective working relationships with Customers and all levels of company employees including corporate and pipeline. * Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, both orally and in writing. * Ability to use personal computer software programs including, spreadsheets, word processing, e-mail, etc. * Ability to work the required work schedule based on 12 hour, rotating shifts that operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. * Ability to use Internet, Excel, SCADA, SAP and any future computer programs. * Ability to demonstrates desirable and appropriate behavior, including integrity, clear communication, ability to get along with others, team playing, industriousness, leadership, sense of urgency, and independent judgment. * Ability to apply effective working knowledge of the terms and conditions of the various pipeline tariffs. * Able to successfully complete all required training and qualification requirements as determined by the company. * Able to possess a valid drivers license and have a safe driving record as determined by the Company. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: * Able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. * Able to sit, stand or walk for long periods of time. * Able to view computer terminal for extended periods of time. * Able to demonstrate and apply the manual dexterity to operate a personal computer. * Able to operate copy machine, fax machine, calculator, telephone and other office equipment.

    • Able to operate a motor vehicle including ability to enter and exit the vehicle unassisted. WORKING CONDITIONS: * Able to be included in a random drug screen pool required for DOT safety sensitive positions. * Able to travel as necessary, with overnight stays required. * Able to work in an office environment. * Able to work rotating shifts, overtime and/or holidays. * Able to work in fast-paced environment with a high-volume workload and frequent, short deadlines that will require a 12 hour work day and may require more than a 40 hour work week to meet established deadlines, including working nights and weekends as scheduled or required.
