Major Duties and Responsibilities: * Process emergency and non-emergency calls from the public * Dispatch appropriate Charlotte Fire Department apparatus * Monitor and respond to emergency and non-emergency radio traffic * Receive incoming routine and emergency call, * Dispatches and maintains contact with all operational units * Work involves detailed record keeping, data entry, and acute listening skills * Frequent public contact requiring tact, firmness, and decisiveness * Ability to obtain important information from callers who are under extreme stress * Skill to choose the appropriate course of action Work is performed in conjunction with departmental policy as well as state, federal, and FCC regulations. Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma / GED or the equivalent combination of education and experience necessary to successfully perform the essential job functions Preferred Requirements: * At least one year relevant experience and an Associate's degree * A successful candidate MUST be able to work a flexible, rotating schedule * Current Communications schedule is an 8 hour shift, with a rotation between: the Day Shift (7am to 3pm) and the Evening Shift (3pm to 11pm) or a consistent Night Shift (11pm to 7am) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: * Ability to assess people and situations * Apply sound judgment * Remain calm under stressful conditions * Elicit sufficient and essential information for dispatching * Assisting field personnel in a timely and efficient manner * Ability to work simultaneously on different calls with different agencies and staff * Ability to speak clearly and distinctly * Ability to maintain accurate and complete work activity records and files * Knowledge of the Charlotte area road system and geography * Ability to work in a team setting * Knowledge of the operation of an electronic radio and telecommunications systems and related Federal Communications Commission regulations is a plus Salary Range: $19.21 hourly How to Apply: Apply online.
