College Intern – Traffic Engineering
This is a temporary position involving various administrative duties that permits exposure to the student's field of study and/or provides experience that is a useful addition to the student's education & meaningful preparation for future professional employment.
Under close supervision, this student serves as an assistant to supervisor in the Office of Traffic Operations, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Field Operations Section.
Receives training in Freeway Management System (FMS) computer software & assists with daily operations of FMS workstation, (e.g., monitoring & control of Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) cameras).
Monitors FMS software & scanners for circumstances that require department &/or emergency response (e.g., abandoned vehicles, accidents, roadway obstructions, malfunctioning or damaged equipment) & notifies appropriate parties (e.g., supervisor, FSP, emergency personnel, dispatchers) when a response is necessary.
Assists in system testing of FMS software. Identifies & logs object code software problems (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Word).
Monitors various systems for proper operation. (e.g., Traffic Vision, CitySync Metro, Vanguard).
Reads plans & transfers power service information into Power Service application & monitors for accuracy.
Assists with daily diary entry in Site Manager for office construction projects.
Under supervisor direction, develop work orders for construction activities. Assist technicians with field maintenance of ITS devices.
Performs support functions in record keeping, generates pre-determined reports using computer & related software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Word), maintains accurate data on regional traffic, construction & special event information; organizes materials, compiles information to assist in report preparation.
Assists Freeway Management section with critical success factor reporting. Assists Signal section as needed.
Must be enrolled in a college or university and in good academic standing
