    The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decisionmakers concerned with global security and prosperity. Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of some 200 employees, including more than 120 analysts working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe.

    The Wadhwani Chair in U.S.-India Policy Studies was created in 2011 to focus CSIS’ work on India. Today the Chair is a leading voice on the Indian economy and U.S.-India commercial ties, U.S.-India security cooperation, and has built a unique program focused on Indian states’ political-economies.

    CSIS is seeking a Deputy Director and Senior Fellow (Deputy) to help lead the program’s work. Reporting to the program’s Senior Adviser, the Deputy will be engaged in all facets of the program’s work. The Deputy will play a public role building the program’s visibility and helping ensure program deliverables are met in a timely fashion. The Deputy will also help look at new projects, events, outreach targets, and publication opportunities.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Functions may include but are not limited to the following:

    • The Deputy will be responsible for ongoing managerial responsibilities such as tracking project deliverables and personnel issues. • The Deputy will lead execution of some program projects, requiring multiple visits to India annually. • The Deputy will co-lead preparation of grant reports for existing projects. • The Deputy will assist the team in fundraising, including the creation and development of new project ideas that are aligned with program strengths. • The Deputy will have a very visible role with the program, including by leading events, press interactions, and writing short/ long pieces for publication. • The Senior Adviser will also look to the Deputy to be an active contributor to major programmatic decisions, to be a key adviser, and to actively support strategic planning for the Wadhwani Chair. • The Deputy will play a leadership role in convening expert groups on topics related to program projects and initiatives. • The Deputy will manage the staff and staff meetings while the Senior Adviser is on travel. • The Deputy will lead both individual and collaborative research projects that advance critical issues in the Americas.

    KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:

    • B.A. required. Degree in International Relations, International Development, International Relations, Economics, or related field preferred; • At least 10 years’ experience in a business or policy environment; • Track record of managing others and managing complex projects- juggling multiple responsibilities, prioritizing, and completing tasks on time and without requiring reminders; • Exceptional network abilities—deep contacts in the India policy environment, both in Washington, DC and in India; • Superior writing and analytical skills; • Must possess strong communication skills including the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from constituency groups, media, governmental entities, and the general public; • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; • Candidates should possess sound judgment and impeccable integrity, positive attitude and creative outlook; • Ability to interact with and respond to questions from a range of individuals with diverse interests, backgrounds and dispositions.

  • Qualifications
    • Proficiency with project management concepts and tools (e.g., project planning software).
    • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams).
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Theoretical and practical knowledge of quality improvement methods and tools.
    • Familiarity with health care terminology (preferred but not required).
    • Familiarity with health care clinical and operational workflows (preferred but not required).
